Odd Future thread

I thought it was too confusing that the other thread was just called Earl Of Slander... http://sonicyouth.com/gossip/showthr...t=earl+slander

still listening to EARL over and over.

finally listened to BASTARD. It's really good. I like EARL more (for now). The title track is amazing though. And "Seven" is awesome.

Who's seen the video for "Earl" by the way??? Sick.

another Odd Future release will be released on Halloween!

SYRFox 10.29.2010 09:48 AM

I love those dudes. I listened to all of their albums and Tyler's BASTARD is my favorite by far. That dude has mad talent to write sick beats.

Also, "DROP" by Earl Sweatshirt on the Radical mixtape might be my favorite track by the Wolf Gang. Mad rappin on that one.

noisereductions 10.29.2010 11:01 AM

yeah "Drop" is great. I love Earl's album so much though. Did you d/l the new Tyler single "Sandwitches"?

SYRFox 10.29.2010 11:49 AM

not yet ; will do !

noisereductions 10.29.2010 12:09 PM

y'know what's weird? RADICAL is all other people's beats, but I dont think I recognized any of the instrumentals.

SYRFox 10.29.2010 12:20 PM

Not even the Liars' one ? That one's use was brilliant. (it was the only beat I recognized though !)

noisereductions 10.29.2010 12:46 PM

I don't own a single Liars album. Or I should say, I've never heard an entire Liars album.

Even though I pretty much love everything these guys are dropping, I'd probably agree with you that Earl is somehow the best of the bunch. It's got the coolest tone to it, if that makes any sense, and moreover I think a lot of its power comes from how perfect it is. It's 26 minutes of just total perfection, and then out. Whereas, say, 'Bastard' hits the same kind of heights, but even though it's all pretty mindblowing, it doesn't quite have the same knockout consistency, and could maybe do with being 10 minutes shorter. Same with some of the other releases. Oh, and 'Earl' has the title track on it, which just automatically puts it in a class of it's own haha. Right now, I'd rank them something like:
  1. Earl
  2. Bastard
  3. Rolling Papers (the fucking production!)
  4. Yellow/White
  5. Radical
  6. Voyager
  7. Ali
  8. Odd Future Tape
and I haven't listened to the Dena Tape enough to judge. That said, I haven't really fully soaked myself in anything except the top 3 yet...

loubarret 10.30.2010 05:29 AM

Great album to say so. Also the beats are epic their minimal feel

noisereductions 11.05.2010 09:13 AM

so they finally have a wiki page. I'm wondering if they put it up themselves, since it has specific release dates for some albums. Apparantly BASTARD came out December 2009. But everything else besides the first Odd Future mixtape are 2010. That's crazy.

been listening to RADICAL a bit more. Half is amazing. Half is meh. Obviously, the full crew isn't all amazing. I'm quite sure that Earl Sweatshirt is by far the best.

"I'm a hot and bothered astronaut / crashing while jacking off / to buffering vids of asher roth / eating apple sauce" ...who knew that THAT would be the opening lines to one of the most incredible albums of the year???

who got the new MellowHype? I haven't listened to it yet.

noisereductions 11.12.2010 08:14 AM

shit's about to get big... pfork gave the new MellowHype album an 8

noisereductions 11.12.2010 08:44 AM

oh yeah, I forgot to say I've been listening to Radical a bit more lately. The "swag me the F out" song is killer, and sort of an apt intro posse cut in a strange way. It's really really long and features so many personalities (the 2nd verse almost falls apart, who is that?) but it all gels in a weird way and works. And it shows just how effortlessly amazing Earl is when he finally gets on it. And then the end is hilarious.

also there's a track that I'm pretty sure is built on an R. Kelly beat. That track is amazing.

davenotdead 11.12.2010 10:14 AM

love earl and tyler, hell they're all pretty great. earl sweatshirt is def. the hilight of this group tho

agreed. As far as MC'ing go, I don't think anyone else can touch him. But Tyler's beats are perfect for him.

I can't wait for him to get back from wherever the hell he is right now.

noisereductions 11.20.2010 06:14 PM

^agreed

The Earl Of Slander 12.23.2010 12:28 PM

So me and NR were just flipping out over how good these 2 madlib remixes they did are, decided to share them/revive the thread.

ALL CAPS with Earl on the mic (AMAZING!!!)

Stepping Into Tomorrow with Tyler

Anyone hear the Christmas song they posted?

noisereductions 12.23.2010 01:15 PM

they posted a xmas song??? I think they last time I checked the page was over a week ago. Damn!

SpaceCadetHayden 01.16.2011 08:06 PM

BUMP.

Where is Dr. Eugene? I feel like this shit is right up his alley. I've only got into Earl and Bastard, but I'm downloading the rest of them now. Earl is the best hip-hop record I've heard in years. Hands down.

noisereductions 01.16.2011 08:31 PM

yeah EARL rules.

Eugene is into this.

pad_023 01.16.2011 08:45 PM

Would anyone mind posting a link to earl's album, I haven't been able to find a decent link for it?

noisereductions 01.16.2011 08:46 PM

um sure... oddfuture.com

pad_023 01.16.2011 09:01 PM

Ha that was stupid, I didn't realise it was available on their website.

I searched on google and didn't find anything.

noisereductions 01.17.2011 12:14 PM

nah I gather that's just what he wants. He wants us to report him I guess. Trolls are into that sort of thing.

Derek 01.17.2011 02:27 PM

Of all the dumb noisereductions jokes you can think up, you register an account for that?

Derek 01.17.2011 04:35 PM

Yeah but Odd Future aren't on this board throwing around "faggot" are they?

Jesus. No idea what to expect there.

Derek 02.11.2011 09:12 AM

new tyler song and video dropped!!!!!!!!

http://oddfuture.com/

Dr. Eugene Felikson 02.11.2011 09:20 AM

In regards to the Jimmy Fallon performance:

So these guys are finally getting the exposure to blow up for real, huh? I'm glad to see it. They definitely have what it takes to be the next big thing. I don't think there's anyone on here who doesn't like this shit. Good luck to 'em. I wonder how the fame would (will?) affect them.

noisereductions 02.11.2011 10:06 AM

yeah I'm wondering about the "fame" thing too. I mean are they gonna sign to a label and stop giving us free shit? Will the sound change? What? No matter. It should still be interesting whatever happens. They're easily the most interesting hip hop collective in YEARS. I really want that EARLWOLF to drop.

Derek 02.11.2011 10:19 AM

the next tyler album isn't free and will be released physically.

SRSLY? weird. What label?

Derek 02.11.2011 10:37 AM

i think they're still doing everything themselves.

noisereductions 02.11.2011 11:31 AM

oh cool. Just surprised that it's not free then.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 02.11.2011 11:49 AM

Somebody's gotta pay for his Wes Borland contacts. ;)

noisereductions 02.11.2011 01:11 PM

i still have some recent singles and crap to catch up on. The last thing I nabbed was the xmas song.
