Help my friend out

My friend who is 19 has a super religious mom, who doesn't want him going on internet forums, personal sites, porno sites, etc. So she put Bsafe on his computer and he can't get on any websites at all.

I told him to get a linux disk, but what are some other work arounds?

Inhuman 12.23.2006 04:11 PM

Linux boots are great, especially ones that you don't have to install. Good suggestion. Could he possibly install a different browser? (Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Standalone, Safari, Netscape, etc..). It could work...

Savage Clone 12.23.2006 04:13 PM

He's an adult and should get his own apartment where he can perform ritual sacrifice if he wants to and his mommy can't say shit about it.

Edit:

I know this sounds flip and all that, but if someone's parents are that hard to be around and that controlling of an adult child, why stay at home? I get along great with my parents and there wouldn't have been enough money or creature comforts to keep me in their house at the age of 19.

porkmarras 12.23.2006 04:15 PM

I don't understand what you're trying to say.

Savage Clone 12.23.2006 04:17 PM

Me?
I'm saying if an adult person has a meddling parent controlling his or her consumption of media (and who knows what else), that person should get the heck out of the parent's house and make up their own rules like an adult.

porkmarras 12.23.2006 04:19 PM

No, i meant first post on the thread.Soz.

Do you always agree with things and never articulate your thoughts even if you suspect that may be wrong?Just asking.....

CHOUT 12.23.2006 04:26 PM

My mom was a drunk when I was growing up and rarely paid any attention to anything I did...it was good in some ways.

Savage Clone 12.23.2006 04:26 PM

He can think for himself; he just knows when to bow down to my superior erudition.

Note how I said "My thoughts exactly," idiot. He said exactly what I was going to say, so I said exactly that. A better question; would you shut up?

Precisely. (See how once again, he said what I would have said, so I don't need to bother with the articulation? Astounding!)

Savage Clone 12.23.2006 04:30 PM

He's a teenager. In Canada. There are no outlets for teen angst up there, so he sublimates with this message board.

k-krack 12.23.2006 04:35 PM

That's fine by me. I just find you annoying most of ther time, is all.

porkmarras 12.23.2006 04:37 PM

I am equally annoying and lovable by nature.

Tokolosh 12.23.2006 04:38 PM

I'd get a job and leave the house.

I'd second that. Being 19 and pushed around by your Jesus-lovin' mommy is pretty pathetic.

He wants to move out, but he doesn't have any money and nobody will take him in.

I'd move out of my parents house, but it is a freaking mansion. Something like 2,000 square feet per floor, 3 floors plus a basement. Plus if I moved out, I'd be spending a crapload of time here anyways because I don't think many landlords would put up with me playing a big muff through a fender bassman constantly or me playing drums. Plus I'd never have any food, and my parents have a costco card.

I guess I'll have to make that foo a linux disc.

Savage Clone 12.23.2006 05:53 PM

Well, the satisfaction of making your own way as an adult with your own life will eventually hold quite a lot of allure for you, I'm sure. It will certainly hold allure with any young ladies you want to hook up with as well. Lots of places have basements where you can practice, or you can live on the cheap and have an offsite studio. I know that I have found it necessary to have someplace else to crank up the big stack, and I am poor as dirt and always have been.
I guess it's a question of priorities and what one is willing to put up with for free room and board. I personally find independence to be priceless.

Maybe a linux disc is the way to go until your friend has either more money or some motivation.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 12.23.2006 06:08 PM

You could sort of shorten that to motivation, because you do need motivation to make money.

Savage Clone 12.23.2006 07:05 PM

Well, there is always the possibility of a "sugar mama" (or daddy if he is so inclined). The life of a "kept boy" can be quite luxurious, you know.

SynthethicalY 12.24.2006 06:19 AM

If it wasn't so damn expensive in California I would move out, but my life is dandy So I don't care that I am living with my parents, they don't bug me about anything.

alteredcourse 12.24.2006 06:50 AM

leave the nest . establish better relationship out of it . leave bullshit behind .
