Haven't read this for years, and I gotta say
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/articl...ghosts-flowers ...whether I agree with it or not (obviously I don't), it's one of the worst reviews I've ever read. Usually when you give an album a bad rating like that, you explain why. The only thing I got is "it's too New York." |
He seems to avoid saying how exactly it's as bad as he says.
The review reads more like the album is a 5.0 or whatever. |
In all honesty and serious, and I've said this elsewhere, "Free City Rhymes" and the title track are two of the all time best SY songs. It's actually kinda shocking how perfect those two songs are.
The whole album's amazing though, certainly their best album in the 2000's and compared to their 90's output only eclipsed by Thousand Leaves in my opinion. |
It's my favourite of their 2000's input also.
Some you guys should say something nice about the album and I can edit it into the group overview |
NYC Ghosts & Flowers is actually my second favorite SY album, just behind Bad Moon Rising, and the title track is my favorite SY track. I could see how people don't like it though, but yeah, that pitchfork review really sucks
|
And link Mesh Gear Fox :D:D:D
|
Something about the pitchfork review, that guy really hates Bruce Willis.
Also, this is pretty funny: And this being democratic badness, Lee Ranaldo speaks hilarious William S. Burroughs impersonations on the title track. "Hey did any of you freaks here ever remember Lenny," he asks as if wearing a trenchcoat in a opium den. Out of 500 retarded sentences in the review, there has to be one funnny part eh? |
I've just joined. This was my first SY album and I still love it, I've even been listening to it quite a bit lately.

That line is awkward though, Adam.

yes! and Nevermind too! I cant explain how good those songs are |
I definitely have to echo what atsonicpark said about Free City Rhymes and the title track. Nevermind is good too, until it gets to the "GRRLZ GO TO MARZ" part.
The only song on it that I really dislike is Renegade Princess. |
I dont dislike a single song on there. Since the day it came out I thought it was a rather brilliant album with a definite feel and perfect sequencing (the CD version).
|
NYC G+F is one of three SY albums I still don't have.

"as if wearing a trenchcoat in a opium den." That's hilarious. |
