internalized fascism is the cause of these minor acts of self-mutilation. the idea that the female body is "gross" and needs to be "cleaned up". the shame of the cunt, and the shame of menstruation, that pervades american culture. girls hating themselves and their bodies. like anorexia, or plastic surgery addiction. |
yep. women pay attention to advertising and then have their opinions which complain about the pressure of the advertising that they pay attention to. the real horror is that they know noone is forcing them to do it, they are coerced into making themselves choose to do it, so that ultimately they are to blame and internalise it as symbol man says. they can choose not to do it, but then the omnipresent advertising comes to represent a lack in themselves which they are constantly reminded of. it's not just women and minge shaving, it applies to everyone. i think its sau paulo... didn't they ban outdoor advertising in one of the south american cities? better for everyone's mental health to do so.

I respectfully disagree. |

no, they banned large outdoor posters in são paulo (the city only) because of visual pollution only. Nothing to do with the images it enforces. Advertising continues in a million other forms in the public space. what you say is fine and all but when women choose NOT TO, there are consequences to pay. in this case, it could be mockery, men could make you feel unnatractive or inadequate, strange or dirty and so on. all these messages that we're told we must be like, we can always choose not to, but there are always consquences, in terms of appearance, even economically. researches show that executives that dye their hairs and use botox or surgeries are more likely to get promotions or keep their jobs, for example. |
