now... last 3 films I've seen:
Sogo Ishii's "Angel Dust" from '94- moody and way ahead of its time for atmospheric serial killer flicks of the 90's. Sadly not on DVD Malick's "The Tree Of Life"- as a huge Malick fan (and someone born in Waco, Texas who kinda jumped at the images of the Alico building featured in the film) this was a bit disappointing. Ambitious, but a bit long winded and reaching. I think I'll go re-watch "The New World". Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Revenge double feature- no where near as good as his later double feature "The Serpent's Path" and "Eyes of the Spider" but still a great delinieation of the yakuza flick. |

I watched The Science of Sleep, which was pretty good for a romance thing (the overall ending was predictable, but the execution of it was unique). Watched Tetsou - Iron Man before that, which was also really good in a different but equally surreal way.

^ Pelle, how was Creepshow 3? I love the first two, and heard that the 3rd was actually pretty lackluster. What'd you think?

I gave up on it before I even made it an hour in. Maybe I should've sat it through... |
Been on a John Huston kick lately and watched all of his films (except "Freud" if anyone knows where to find it!).
For his final film, "The Dead" is a nice, delicate way to an end a career. I still think "The Misfits" is his masterpiece though. |
![]() Yes, I had not seen this movie, and his recent death and making the thread about it made me really interested in it. |

Saw this at a dilapitated art house theater when it was released in '94 and loved it. Ended up being one of my favs of that particular year. Probably because the sadistic mood of the film fit the grungy theater so well, but Ferrera's confused cross cutting between real life and film and how the performances affect their actual lives was well done. Watched it about a year ago and it definitely held up well. |

The spinning tracking shot around and around the busy cafe, examining it from every angle, is definitely the best shot in Jost's long career. I so love this movie. |

I thought it was pretty damn good! I've also heard that it was pretty crappy so I didn't have any high expectations but it was reallt good! You should watch it. It is very funny aswell, but defenitly the least good one of the three. |
Late last night "Blue Velvet" too much. Dean Stockwell always kills me.....
|
I always go to Quantum Leap for my Dean Stockwell fix

I watched You Don't Know Jack yesterday. Interesting character to say the least. Thought Al did a good job, didn't just mail it in like some of his other recent offerings. Definitely I'm with Jack that euthanasia should be legal

tree of life
and I am still not sure if it is a masterpiece or if it falls way to short of its goal. going to see it again tomorrow to find out |

I think that's fair enough. I'm a fan but more in spirit. I like the idea of Abel Ferrara far more than I do his actual films. If he were a band he'd be The Misfits. |
![]() 8/10 Best mob movie of the last 15 years. |
