let's see.. i've heard slayer, sabbath, wolves in the throne room, burzum, melvins, pig destroyer, and tons of other supposedly awesome metal bands.. simply don't find the enjoyment in listening to this music anymore.

A good friend of mine mentioned very recently that Emperor are pretty much the daddies of troo black metal, and I can't disagree with him, really. I can't imagine many indie kids getting in them, to be honest...or am I wrong?

When's "back in the day"? No one really knew them until 2005 or 2006 or so, aside from the true death metal elite. They're like classical music meets death metal. Some of the best shit ever. It takes them years to write ONE song. Even people that don't get into black metal like this band because they're fucking amazing. Just trust me on this one.

I can't imagine it either. Much too symphonic for the indie kids. From what I've seen, indie kids avoid metal like the plague, unless it's lo-fi/ambient BM or drone.

cryptopsy has been bad for a long time, too many vocalists now. last good one was "...and then youll beg", with that awesome cover art with the dude tied to the train tracks. that was a sick record.

I can't really think of many "metal" bands.
Maybe Dillinger Escape Plan, but stuff like Converge is more hardcore than metal. Dream Theater maybe. And anything on guitar hero or rock band like Testament.
