The wife and I went over to Toomey Starks, Louisiana for lunch Wednesday. Our shrimp poboy, boudain balls and onion rings was well worth the drive!

i don't think there's an official recipe for gumbo unless it's fake. i mean gumbo is basically a pot of everything. so i'll say you're true to the spirit of the thing.

next time try to add some sausages though :D *****

sounds great! but you can feed the kale to the pigs or chickens and later you can make bacon or fried chicken.

look what i found on wikithing:

Gumbo z'herbes[edit]

Gumbo z'herbes, served with filé powder and hot sauce
When Catholics were expected to abstain from eating meat during Lent, a meatless variety of gumbo, known as gumbo des herbes (literally "gumbo of the herbs" and shortened to gumbo z'herbes), was often served. This variety combined a large number of greens – typically including turnips, mustard greens, and spinach.[10] The greens were cooked to mush and strained through a sieve to produce a thick green liquid. Preparation for this variety of gumbo was time-consuming, and as Lenten restrictions have relaxed, the dish has become less popular.[10] It is very rarely served in restaurants.[11] In modern times, ham or crabmeat is occasionally added to this type of gumbo.

Gumbo z'herbes may have originated with the French, Germans, or West Africans.[12] It has similarities to the French dish potage aux herbes ("soup with herbs"), as well as to the African callaloo.[12] The meatless dish also bears striking resemblance to a dish often eaten in Germany on Maundy Thursday. German Catholics, obeying the Lenten rules, often served a stew made of seven different greens on this date.[11]

yeah it's basically a restlessen.

got a friend of mine a job in service at the restaurant. he's a free-jazz impro concert and festival organizer and he'll invite some nola musicians next month to play in the garden of the restaurant. Gonna make a real deal gumbo with some local equivalent for andouille.

it's not so much about sausage or meat i think... the stock is where it's at.

ohhh. now i want a po boy.
fuck,
street food here in vienna is so bad.
i'd kill for a decent bosna.
not some fucking ridiculous hot dog with käsekrainer.

schizophrenicroom 06.05.2015 03:18 PM

holy shit, that po boy. And the bread looks scrumptious. Sock of sandwiches being ruined by poor bread.

i heated up some red pepper/tomato soup (trader joes sale) and made a grilled cheese on sourdough... ultimate comfort food

because i'm single this week, and i'm not bothering to cook, i had a peanut butter/raisin sandwich on whole wheat and a piece of celery. boring as fuck.

BUT THEN, i ate this whole heirloom tomato, like a big yellow taxi, on my right hand like an apple, the seasalt pinched between teh fingers of the left one, over the sink so it could drip freely, and it was so goddamn great and savory and spectacular, and later the chickens ate the leftover middle like a red horde of huns.

this morning it was cold (hey, it's the desert) so i roasted a purple cauliflower. it is beautiful and the purple got darker in the oven (35' @ 400F). i'm eating the whole thing. no seasoning, just a thin coat of olive oil. so good.

Nice.

The young beauty brought home two eclairs last evening for breakfast this morning. Yum.

I don't know what I'm going to eat for lunch, but I am damned hungry. Sometimes I go home and make a burger. I can't do that every day, though, or I'll start to look like J. Wellington Wimpy.

schizophrenicroom 06.16.2015 04:21 PM

friend took me to cracker barrel this morning. i shoved pancakes into my face, and their hashbrown casserole. no regrets.

i'm feeling sort of meh today, didn't sleep well, but i had some chamomile tea and chicken and waffles just now

!@#$%! 06.16.2015 04:25 PM

funny thing, i had teh same problem, couldn't sleep till 4am, then up at 6, today gone down the drain

just ate a the last slice of whole wheat bread with olive oil and a slice of queso fresco, yellow heirloom tomato on top. not indecent. i still feel like crap though, just not-hungry. but it was tasty. maybe i should focus on that.

gmku 06.16.2015 04:33 PM

I had a nice black forest ham sammich for lunch. A few chips. Coffee with cream.

A real workingman's lunch.

schizophrenicroom 06.16.2015 04:36 PM

both your meals sound great. i was up until 5, woke up at 7:55, then finally took a nap bit before i went out. i still feel pretty meh.

thinking for during the game i'll make some pasta or something.

!@#$%! 06.16.2015 04:40 PM

the ham: was it boar's head? because that would be good pig.

schizo: what game is that? i'm sure it's not argentina/uruguay

i don't want to nap because i'm hoping to reenter the circadian cycle at the right point-- long story w/ the internet only available in the day now.

schizophrenicroom 06.16.2015 04:44 PM

cavs/warriors, haha.

only during the day?

yeah, i don't want to nap and then i'm up all night. last thing i need.

!@#$%! 06.16.2015 04:46 PM

yeah, it's satellite & it's weird. i just changed by "bonus hours" from 2am-1pm to 8am-6pm. a real crap system but it's all i got until either i move or elon musk builds his orbital internet

cav/warriors - what sport is that? baseball? (it's baseball season yea?)

==
eta-- basketball! had no idea that was still going on. i thought it was over in the spring. bha ha ha.

gmku 06.16.2015 05:56 PM

Last night all we ate for dinner was French soft cheese and rosemary crackers. And wine. It was all we wanted.

some butter lettuce would go well with that. or belgian endive, but that's a winter thing.

schizophrenicroom 06.18.2015 12:15 PM

made an omelet of sorts with swiss chard, spinach, turkey sausage, peppers and onions. it was delightful. poured sriracha all over it.
