The new Busdriver is pretty good.
|
the new blues control album come sout in july on siltbreeze, me sooooooooo excited.
|
On a hip hop related note, the new Mos Def is a return to form for him, redemption.
|
I'm enjoying the Calmer EP a lot. Jazztronica at its finest
|
Greg Malcom - Leather And Lacy
What a nice little record :) |
May I add snowbringers cult by isengrind/twinsistermoon/neutral snow buildings

mos def is boring. i hate all that spiritual rap shit, sounds too forced it you ask me. public enemy was more "spiritual" than those groups will ever be, and they didn't have to act like wimps.
|
I'm sorry, but Black Star and Black On Both Sides are great albums. Nothing forced about them.
The Ecstatic is decent, but yeah, is a little generic. I prefer the new Busdriver. |
Oh, and is anyone else digging Of Bonds In General by Axolotl? I listened to it once and was pretty impressed.
|
I dig the new busdriver
|

|
Honestly, this William Basinski album is amazing. I like it way more than The Disintegration Loops series put together haha.
Oh and the new Experimental Dental School is great. I don't like it as much as the old shit but nice to know they're progressing! |

I don't know them but that's an awful band name. |

I don't see anything wrong with it. And it's not a band, it's one guy. A rap artist. |
yeah, Busdriver is fucking awesome.
|
Dia by Amen Dunes strikes me as probably the best album to lay on the floor and watch the ceiling fan to in 2009 so far.
|
ohh, sounds up my alley, will investigate mr rick..
|
i love nosaj thing's album so much. most of you would probably hate it but i think it ultra addictive. cheap glitch hop that grooves a lot. fucking rad if you ask me
|
by the way, i couldn't set myself for a top 10, so here is a list of everything (i think) i've listened to this year: (plus ratings)

other recently heard awesomeness:
gary war-opens casette ganglians-monster head room gown-the old line conrad schitzler-silver (qbico is so good for wierd and trippy music) heavy winged-spreading center the intelligence-crepescule with pacman jason crumer-post-nothing jazzfinger-grief to grind the fire kawabata makoto-rainbow of love la otracina-blood moon riders leonard cohen-live in london all of the markers' releases on arbitrary trust nihiist assault group-silent movie psychedelic horseshit-shitgaze anthems ratas del vaticano-mocoscos pateticos pelt-a stone for ancgus maclise teeth mountain-live on withdrawl method-cyclic cold cave/prurient split thee oh sees-tidal wave 7" (this is the year oh sees it would seem, and woodsist is there to document the entire thing, amen) clockcleaner-ready to fight (one of the coolest covers ive ever heard) the new six organs is on soulseek but i think i wana wait till the vinyl comes out, casny's playing is just too pure to be diluted to mp3 format i think reissuess: shadow ring-live review (actually got this back at no fun, just started heavily listening to it now, top 15 bands ever for sure) ashnav-early years tape muck 94-97' cromagnon-cave rock (can you say awesome!?!?! i didnt think they did anything other than 'orgasm') also, here are some that surprised me that they were god: kreator-hordes of chaos (no pleasure to kill obviously) brutal truth-evolution through evolution im listening to amen dunes now rick, they are rad |

Isis - Wavering Radiant
|
King Tuff "Was Dead"
|
who's king tuff?
|
If you guys haven't checked out the new Saxon Shore album and you're big into post-rock, do so immediately.
|
oh, i forgot to mention this, yellow tears 'dont cry' vinyl is the best noise recod ive heard this year, just absolutely shrieking blackened dada-noise fuckery. not to mention thier performnce at no fun was my favorite of the whole weekend. Dom Fernow sold me this record actually at the show. The dudes are also in Halflings and the band is kinda similar but Halflings is almost a noise-grind band like Two Dead Sluts: One good Fuck, and Yellow Tears is more strictly experimental.

amen dunes is waaaay different/better than i thought they'd be, i was sure by the name they'd be more new age drone not not fun shit, instead i get dirty and broken cough syrup infused whiskey no fi psych boogie rock jams. really great.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble
This album blows you away |
great 2009 shit i've heard recently:
jandek - not hunting for meaning greg davis - mutually arising sun araw - heavy deeds six organs of admittance - luminous night robedoor - exorcist blues zs - music for modern white isengrind - journey of the 7 stars |
I'm really excited for the new vivian girls.
I uploaded their single, "moped girls" (oop I am pretty sure): http://www.sendspace.com/file/vui675 |
sun araw and ducktails and all that stuff really pisses me off.
|
Haha, why does it piss you off?
Ducktails is pretty overrated, to me. It's not bad, and some of it is actually awesome (the more drawn-out stuff). But as a whole, I'm not sold. Sun Araw, on the other hand, is quite awesome. That Predator Vision split (Predator Vision's side is way better, though) is amazing. |
this album has become one of my favorites of the year. its real simple but it just really grabbed me.
its an album by israeli guitarist yair yona. its VERY influenced by john fahey and basho and he is very aware of that. but it is still an icredibly good "american primitive" album, that has a lot of self awareness. i was priviliged enough to ionterview him for the radioo two days ago and it aired yesterday. anyhoo he has put up his entire album for Download. although its nicer if one was to buy it... http://yairyona.bandcamp.com/ |
