i think i ruined it
|

that's because nobody has listened to enough of either hank or bach to tell you you're wrong |
never listened to hank but i wouldn't disagree with the bach idolisation
|

i disagree, dragnet, grotesque and slates are all consistently good in my opinion, i would say room to live is more consistant than hex, but that's because i think And This Day is the worst fall song from that era. |

You'd be surprised, as it happens. You rock kids mightn't have, but that doesn't mean that no-one has. |
One thing that I am dead sure about is that when hardcore Fall fans form bands they have way too much of an expectation of what a band should be like to really pull it off like their mentor. Prove me wrong on this and I'll buy you an ice cream.

fair enough but i would say - dragnet- chock stock grotesque - W.M.C. Blob 59 are mediocre/poor. gotta love and this day - "attempts to intimidate the listener thru noise waves" EDITED that cos I misread |

incidentally the one of the two classical fans i know is a big bach fan (don't know about the other), and the only country fan i know is a big hank williams fan. it's fairly rare to meet people of our age who listen to those things though. |

i tried to start a band with a hardcore fall fan once, and it only proves you right. if i could upload the rehearsal tape i would, it was ridiculous. |
REPETITION!
|
as steve malkmus once famously said.. "no one got rich quick by trying to rip off the fall"
man, is this an old thread rebumped?? i didnt read the fiirst few pages.......... fall = class.... whatever era or style... |
Quote:
i stand by that apart from the fact they have had 2 albums since then..... refromation post tlc has its moments but its quite poor in all... imperial wax solvent is excellent tho......... for the record on this thread perverted hex enduction dragnet peel sessions box liht user syndrome (everyone forgets this one) slates fall heads roll you cant go wrong..... |
By the way, when does the new Fall album actually come out in the US? Hasn't it been out in UK for like 2 months?

I dont get how anyone can get a great deal from The Fall musically, perhaps thats because im not musically adept, but the reason i like their best stuff is because the meaning is often challenging to discern. As such, its encouraging for people who write stuff because there doesnt seem to be any boundaries and it makes one feel comfortable with only making sense to onesself and not being too arsed with anyone else |
good music, good lyrics, good band... well, the first 10 albums or so.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_Wax_Solvent doesn't say shit but when something happens it'll be on there and the Fall's official page. |
i love the fall's music more than their lyrics.
|
TLC was shitty jam fuckabout.
except for over over! |

For me the voice is part of the music, and what he actually says is a seperate entity, but the two are still intrinsically connected. Fucking hell im thinking too much about this, leave me alone! |
you are thinking too much. brilliant music... tons of repetition with subtle changes.. or songs like nwra where the members only play when they feel like it.. some of the best bass lines I've ever heard from any band, ever, not to mention the creative use of two drummers. Musically they're great; the lyrics range from brilliant to nonsense but they sound good over top of the mess.
