Really into The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death right now. "I Am The Resurrection" kills me.

He has a lot of "best of" albums, I think RETURN OF THE REPRESSED is the best. I'd just reccomend getting his albums proper. He doesn't really have any bad songs -- get the albums proper, then make your own best of.

Does this guy sound anything like Avril Lavigne?

Yeah I'll check out Avril when I buy the Fahey. I have always wondered what goes on in the mind of an 19 year old girl.

I thought this was the same session as the "On Air" CD, but it turns out I just checked and "On Air" was recorded on 3/20/1978, so this DVD is going to be different. good! I still have to get that performance DVD (1969/1996 i think its called or something like that), and there is at least one maybe more instructional DVDs. I got both instruuctional books, each came w/ 3 CDs, mostly instruction but a few performance tracks and discussion...

atsonicpark 02.27.2011 07:25 AM

thanks

You might already be familiar with that soon-to-be-released DVD as there has been a copy of it in circulation among traders. It is sourced from a WDR broadcast, and i think i've read somewhere that the mastertape is gonna be used for it. Kind of odd that they have the show's date listed as "18-3-1982". I wonder what's the reason behind that.

EDIT:
The DVD sourced from the TV broadcast i have mentioned above is available for download at the zombtracker:

John Fahey 1978-03-17 Audimax, Hamburg, DE [PRO]

That torrent needs some seeders, though. I'm willing to dig my copy out and jump in to help seed if anyone here makes a request.

I am a HUGE fan of Fahey's late period stuff, I'm going to go ahead and say I'm the biggest fan of it that's ever lived, preferring it in general to his early stuff (though all periods of Fahey rule). Georgia Stomps, Atlanta Struts has been my thing lately, the songs are so long and so filled with riffs and information that it's probably a bit much for a lot of people to want to sit down and listen to; Fahey's stuff has always had, uh, a lot of NOTES and lots of sections and whathaveyou, but this album in general is just one thing after another, and a "wrong note" is never hit, if you know what I mean. It's just the most perfect example of perfect guitar playing I've ever heard. HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN in particular is so amazing. Get this album.
