I do not think Cindy Lee can reasonably be described as commercial by any stretch of the imagination, but whatever. It has girl-group sounds so I guess it’s the Supremes. |
Like I said: They are moving away from Lo-Fi to Hi-Fi... with... each... new... release i.e. Women and early Lee sound nothing like the new stuff. It happens to most bands so is no surprise to find it here, just disappointing. Give me the murk ffs

Diamond Jubilee sounds like it was recorded from a college radio station onto a tape and then played back but whatever
|
Beings - There Is A Garden (June 7). Zoh Amba / Steve Gunn / Shahzad Ismaily / Jim White - this is fucken bitchen!

Joni Mitchell - The Asylum Albums (1976-1980) (June 21)

Highly recommended: Maria Faust Jazz Catastrophe: 3rd mutation – MOTH

The new Big Brave takes a few spins to get used to their more mellow sound compared to their previous one(s). But hell, I played it loud in my car just now and it has the best guitar sounds you could ever wish for.
If you like weird minimalistic noisepop rock music, you should check out the new Kee Avil |
The best new record I've heard this year, not that I've listened to much, is A Lonely Sinner by samlrc - it's extremely zoomer, as you can tell by its fanbase (I like that it played off RYM's distaste for furries with its love of post-rock), but it's a really strongly pieced together album that doesn't rely on too many tropes for its sound and explores some cool territory.
The new Einstürzende Neubauten was cool too, but it's pretty repetitive over the course of the 80 minutes (which makes sense considering how it was developed). I've downloaded that Cindy Lee album off Soulseek but haven't gotten around to it yet, and I missed my chance to say I was on it before it was cool. |

Amazing. He already issued the Archives for this period in time, and still there's jams like these that weren't included |
