She loved the experience. She was proud of the film and tried to get us all to go see it. (I didn't - I should have)

Sonic Youth 37 06.09.2008 09:37 PM

My Left Foot.

great movie. Day-Lewis' performance is so real, it's kind of scary.

This movie doesn't have a plot. There's no real linear story and that's what makes it so good.
Anton Furst did a fantastic job when it comes to the visual aspects of the film.
Also, the movie was deliberately made to look artificial and has a 'studio set' feel to it. I like that.
A must see, in my opinion.

Watched Killer of Sheep this weekend. Excellent!
Thanks for the tip !@#$%!

The Thin Red Line

Reminded myself how much I liked that movie despite being a huge smug-twat actor bandwagon. Don't generally like war movies but I dig this one.

Tokolosh 06.10.2008 01:22 PM

War films are one of my favorite genres. The Thin Red Line is well filmed and the battles are accurate.
Interesting characters too.

When it comes to war movies though, Sam Fuller is my favorite.
Fixed Bayonets!, The Big Red One, The Steel Helmet, etc.
Relatively low-budget films with great stories
by a very underrated and rebellious filmmaker.

luisxvi 06.10.2008 01:32 PM

The Thin Red Line to me was better that Saving Private Ryan, WHile not as visceral it was just much more elegant and the battle scenes were horrific and somehow more touching.

Lsst film I saw was this:

Tokolosh 06.10.2008 01:34 PM

and... what did you think of it?

The kids in that film are amazing actors.

gmku 06.10.2008 01:37 PM

Thin Red Line is leagues ahead of Saving Pvt Ryan.

I loved it! Those kids are amazing and the fact that its a joint Iraq/Iran film was good too. I had seen it before but needed reminding of how good it is.

Rob Instigator 06.10.2008 01:42 PM

not the first 40 minutes

gmku 06.10.2008 01:56 PM

Part of Gimme Shelter last night on TV. I can only stand about the first 40 minutes of it now, though, just to see the Mussel Shoals scenes. The Altamont part feels oppressive.

I found this film very boring actually.

Mad Max:

It's probably been about 15 years since I last watched this flick. I finally got to see it without an American dub. It's got some really fantastic action and one of the most badass vengeance scenes ever.

I remember reading that she wanted to do some acting, but I didn't know she'd actually done it.

I watched Willard the other night. Not all of it though because I was extremely tired.

Anyways, it was good. I love it.

NIMEWANG (Half Moon)

WONDERFUL MOVIE.

Crispin Glover creeps me the fuck out. The dude is completely insane. His movies look like they'd make Eraserhead look like Gone With The Wind.

stacy - 6/10 [shitty zombie film but hilarious, with tons of cute girls]
the covenant - 3/10 [shitty movie with the worst fight scene ever at the end]
the final academy documents - 1/10 [william s burroughs drinking coffee and walking around for 60 minutes]
real fiction - 6/10 [starts out nice, but it kind of doesn't go anywhere]
red room - 6/10 [very shoddy and ameteurish but entertaining from beginning to end; a chick drinks piss in it!]
young thugs: innocent blood - 4/10 [miike's usual boring explorations of childhood]
finale in blood - 4/10 [boring]
joint security area - 3/10 [REALLY boring]
re-watched night of the creeps - 8/10 [genius, hilarious, 80's comedy/horror from the guy who made monster squad]
re-watched taxi driver - 11/10 [probably the best film ever, besides el topo]
organ - 6/10 [a bit all over the place and disjointed but has some good visuals; I actually liked ID better]
bride of frank - 8/10 [great! child murders, a dude getting his head cut off and then frank shits down his throat... really funny, if you like troma/john waters type stuff.. one of the funniest films I've ever seen, starring a 60 year old half-retarded man!]
sonny - 5/10 [nicolas cage's pretty crappy directing debut, has some good moments but is pretty pointless]
any which way but loose - 5/10 [you've all probably seen this]
iron man - 7/10 [and this]
blankman - 6/10 [and this]
don't be afraid of the dark - 6/10 [weird made for tv horror movie I watched on youtube; shockingly effective but you know.. it's a tv movie]
terror train - 7/10 [really well-made horror film, with david copperfield!]
kung fu hustle - 8/10 [amazingly entertaining; I need to get shaolin soccer next]

atsonicpark 06.18.2008 03:49 AM

What Is It looks like a Jodorowsky wannabe. Nothing wrong with that. I want to see it, though it'll probably never come to DVD.

I enjoyed it thoroughly. I am a huge fan of hard boiled ultra violence black comedy type stuff.

acousticrock87 06.19.2008 01:47 PM

I was really looking forward to Shoot 'Em Up, and it was great at first. Kinda fell apart, though, I felt. Can't even remember if I finished it.

I think the last movie I saw was Casablanca. It was next on my list of movies-that-people-alway-say-"How-have-you-not-seen-that?!"-about.

Sleepy Hollow has everything. Or maybe I'm just biased because I've had a near unhealthy obsession with The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow since I was able to read. Seriously...for like 4 years in elementary school I carried a copy with me at all times. I could seriously never get tired of this movie. I watched it probably six times in the past two days.

atsonicpark 06.20.2008 03:44 PM

ehhhhhhh...

elephant - 6/10
last days - 4/10

nicfit 06.20.2008 03:45 PM

That's fucked up.

I watched Over Her Dead Body (is that what it's even called?) the other day. It wasn't too too bad, but I found myself fairly bored.
