Whoever this is (I think it's your mom right?) you should slit their throat from behind the couch while they're on their fat ass watching tv.

I mean, DON'T do that it would be so wrong to do that ;)

As far as I know the part of your brain that recognises tone and pitch develops when you are very young(like under 7), and the older you get the harder it is to learn to recognise such things.

As in, if you played a bunch of notes and told me what they were, I couldn't then tell you what they were if you played them back to me. It's all a blur. Beats make so much more sense in my head.

This isn't unusual. Hardly anyone knows what notes are called, really. Especially just from hearing it. And definitely not right away. It's called practice. Try it sometime.

But if you want to just keep being self-defeating, go right ahead. The world needs more new drummers than it needs guitarists anyways.

.. I still kind of think I suck(at guitar), but I wish I didn't and listen when people try and instruct me on how to suck less.

sports! now there is a laugh and a half for me.

Are you good at all sports or some more than others? As in.. is it a strength thing or a hand eye coordination thing or what?

it's in my makeup!

but no I do want to learn, that's why I've never really given up (yet)

drumming gets me psyched up, guitar requires so much more brainpower only because it is yet to 'click'.. like we've been talking about.

Dead-Air 10.15.2009 12:56 AM

My boss is coming down from Seattle to observe my office tomorrow. I really must go to sleep now. This has been better than Happy Hour and much cheaper. I'm sure all of my problems are solved now.

night D-A!

I need to go get working on a fabulous dinner that will score me a massage.

likelyhood /10 is about a 4.

i'm good at pretty much anything that requires hand-eye coordination... which is why soccer is tough, but i'm actually learning it over the last few years, and i;ve gone from terrible to decent... the only thing i will probably never get is skateboarding, which is weird because i am great with skates [agressive or regular].

i guess like music, some people are just born with better ability in sports, but anyone can learn to be at least decent, and they are fun and usually inexpensive [and they keep you in shape]

davenotdead 10.15.2009 01:00 AM

Well, I don't know how much time you dedicate to trying to get guitar to "click"... for the record, it never did for me. It was just a steady learning process. I don't really get those "click" things, except maybe in math or something so I don't really relate. Playing guitar is hard. I've been playing for nearing on 2 years and I still feel totally inadequate and annoyed at the things I can't do. But that just means I play more. You can't expect to actually learn how to play guitar if you don't try to do it every day.

alteredcourse 10.15.2009 01:02 AM

Phoenix, i didnt see that post infinitemusic posted. Like I stated before, I think you're just in your mind too much. Think of playing music like running. Let the hell go and let your body + fingers do what your mind wont let them. You will shatter your expectations .

phoenix 10.15.2009 01:03 AM

skateboarding is still one that I wish I did better! Only the older I get the less awesome I look while trying to not fall on my ass. But yeh the fun facter is what makes me not give that kind of stuff up. Ball sports I don't really do ( except maybe kicking around in a park ) because they have a tendancy to hit me hard in the wrong places. I swim and run okay.. both I love because they provide a kind of escapism though  When I'm swimming or running I just feel really free.

for me the click is the kind of moment when you're in a learning process, and you go from thinking about every step, to just 'doing'. Can you drive? Driving is a good one.. when you go from thinking about 'how to drive the car' to just 'driving the car and thinking about where you're going.'

you know?

I'd love to be able to!! :D

You're very good at motivating haha.

alteredcourse 10.15.2009 01:07 AM

Perhaps its a small accomplishment that you need. Fuck, everyone needs those lil landmarks in what they do (the absence of clear ones has created a generation of clueless wastelanders.)

So maybe alter your focus not on just miraculously GETTING IT ! :D
But accepting that you have to just "get" a small thing, that will build into better understanding.

yeh little goals are a good plan to have.. SMART goals haha.

davenotdead 10.15.2009 01:11 AM

i agree about the swimming and running being very freeing activities. ball sports are usually more fun for me though. well, swimming is comparable. running is kind of like torture... but its also amazing for that fact and after you finish it, it feels incredible

alteredcourse 10.15.2009 01:15 AM

My example.

Is there an easy 2 or 3 chord song that you know inside out from listening ?

Let your fingers rest on the memorization of those chords until you phase your SELF out and just let the fingers walk.

You say that you do this from time to time. Fuck, maybe making chord/guitar music isnt for you. Is that ok ? What drives you to wanting to play music so much ? I mean...maybe making music in this fashion just isnt the medium you need.

Exactly! You are given a choice of god or science, but why can't they both be intigrated.

Dead-Air and Adam, those are the reasons I have sex with boys.

atsonicpark 10.15.2009 08:59 AM

I'd let a dude fuck me in the ass and cum on my face. I don't think I'm attracted enough to guys to want to fuck them back though.

HaydenAsche 10.15.2009 09:05 AM

Interesting. You're a peculiar man, Mr. Cooley. That is why you're one of my favorite people ever.

atsonicpark 10.15.2009 09:23 AM

"I'm just honest." I don't care who knows it or what people think; I'm sure 90% of people have similiarly "bizarre" feelings, they just don't make 'em public. Who gives a fuck.

But thanks, Hayden. I love you too.

you don't turn on your computer by force of prayer, do you?

(well, some old machines probably run on that, but that's besides the point i'm trying to make)

how does that example invalidate her point exactly? There is no reason to be needlessly antagonistic when someone is attempting to build a bridge rather than slam shut a door :(

there is nothing that makes bridges intrinsically better than doors. i know "building bridges" sounds more hippy dippy, but each has its proper function, and doors for what they do.

science and religion might meet in philosophy or cosmology, but not invading each other's provinces. that's how you end up with bad science and crazier-than-usual religion.

i like a good door. it keeps things separated like they sometimes should. for example, in a house: the kitchen and the crapper-- definitely a door. you don't want a bridge from the turdpot to the frying pan. or the inside and outside of a fridge--- you don't want to cool the whole state of california. etc.

doors are good for you!

there's also drawbridges-- those are cool too.

doors are not good for anyone. communication is a must.. doors are how shit like this gets started

human beings, when in ignorance and lack of communication, tend to do the worst things to each other..

!@#$%! 10.17.2009 03:46 PM

without boundaries, you wouldn't be alive. peel off your skin if you don't believe me. or have your cell membranes melt. or say 'hey, there's no need for my brain to be confined" and crack your skull open.

you're overgeneralizing metaphors in a hippy dippy way. yes, yes, we need greater communication among humans, yes we are all brothers and sisters, etc, yes, that's nice, "building bridges" is a nice humanitarian metaphor, but if you apply this notion to everything and anything without distinction you cease to make sense.

anyway, i have to close the door on this conversation as it's taking up too much of my time to make a simple point and i have other things to do today.

im not overgeneralizing anything, i'm simply against taking seriously a mishmash of religion and science-- that's what redneck schoolboards do and i'm not for it.
