I love shoegaze, and was mightily impressed on discovering the huge impact it made with people all over the world, especially the U.S., inspiring them to form brilliant bands who seminally took the genre to new and exciting heights, surpassing the original UK scene in every way.
My personal faves so far are: A Shoreline Dream (U.S.) Airiel (U.S.) Autumn's Grey Solace (U.S.) Bethany Curve (U.S.) Bowery Electric (U.S.) Pinkshinyultrablast (Russia) Sea Dweller (Italy) |

I don't think I've heard any of these!! Post some links or something... you have eight minutes until my lunch break ends!!! Btw, in listening to MBV on my commute today, it became even more obvious that Isn't Anything is a better record than Loveless. Totally. |
some of my favorite shoegaze tracks, eventually im gonna make a kick ass mix cd of this genre.

Pale Saints were mentioned a lot in some book I read back in 2002 about alternative rock. Forget what it's called. I think it had Mrs. Love on the cover... or mr. Cobain. It was bushleague, but mentioned a lot of artists that otherwise have largely gone undocumented. |
E.N., if you're still out there somewhere, I bought Ladies and Gentlemen today. I'm blissed out, man. Seriously, I haven't enjoyed an album so much since I don't know when. Maybe not since Loveless or Nowhere. Terrific. I thank you for the recommendation.

I'm still here don't worry. :) Glad your liking it! |
Very much. Thanks. Decided to switch from speakers to headphones, a sure sign it's going to become loved.
|
Be on the lookout for the new record. Check out new song "hey Jane" on YouTube.
|
Okay.
Recommendations of earlier stuff, aside from Ladies and Gentlemen? |
Shoegaze must be one of the worst genre names ever, along with EBM and powerviolence. They were probably all invented by music critics.
Thanks for recommending bowery electric. They were pretty good. I think Bailter space is worth a mention here. Musicwise that is. |

Yes. Laser Guided Melodies and Pure phase are both amazing records. They're less pop-centric, but no less brilliant. A little sparser, sometimes a little slower moving, but totally worth it. Laser-Guided Melodies is actually only four proper tracks, with several subsections in each. I've never actually liked the Royal Albert Hall live double album, preferring Fucked up Inside as far as Spiritualized live goes, but you might want to look into it. But if you like LGM, I doubt you'll have any problems with the three records that followed it. |
I've been listening to a lot of shoegaze again recently. I think my favourite new discovery are Loveliescrushing. Their album Bloweyelashwish is fantastic.
My favourite track from it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CkAVwLwSRo |
I was going to mention new shoegaze too.
Young Prisms have been off to a promising start. |
There are some good shoegaze bands around at the moment. Young Prisms are nice, I wasn't that impressed with their first album but the track they released recently was decent. I'm looking forward to the new album.
You can grab it here http://stereogum.com/959662/young-pr...premiere/mp3s/ Pure X are cool. I was surprised their album from last year received so little attention. It was one of my personal favourites. This track has fantastic dreamy guitar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcUnotjcZKw Echo Lake are also pretty rad, one of the most promising British bands to emerge in the last few years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_m2xOTrZZ0 |

Really? I thought Friends For Now was quite good. Better than any of the other youngster shoegaze I've encountered in a while. Thank you for the peak at their new record. |
By the by, has Galaxie 500 been mentioned in this discussion? If not, I hereby mention them: Galaxie 500.
|
I like Galaxie 500. They're a bit moodier kind of shoegaze. I have to be in the right mood.
I'm hooked on Going Blank Again by Ride right now. I have been playing this damned thing endlessly for days. |
Quote:
I love Going Blank Again. The opener Leave them all behind is one of my favourite tracks. I love the drums, Loz from Ride was such a great drummer. |

Galaxie 500 occasionally is up there with MBV and JAMC for me, but they can get a little boring. "On Fire" is such a great album, though. As for ride, I've only really heard Nowhere, but I've heard it and heard it and heard it. I love it, but everything starts to sound generic if you listen to it enough. Also, the album cover will go down in history. |
