the luba stuff after palomar is ok but kind of silly, and it's not really the same when the characters aren't in palomar, it kind of becomes all about who's fucking who. the maggie and hopey stories are just as good as they always were though.

I'm pretty proud of my comic/magazine collection. I've only been at it for less than a year now, on a severely limited budget, and have already filled an entire mag box - mostly horror. I've been playing catch-up through various back issues. I'm not too keen on graphic novels/collections, they almost feel like cheating to me. Although I'm probably just wiggling my fingers up my ass.

My collection is void of superhero books so far, which is a shame, because I'd love to break into some Spiderman, or Batman; but there are just so many issues, and storylines - I have no clue where to start! I had a few issues of Spidey as a kid, bagged and all. If only I had held onto them.

Anywho, my favorites thus far have been...

COMICS
Army of Darkness
Beavis & Butthead
Blood + Water
Chucky
Dr. Giggles
Frankenstein Mobster
Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash (especially The Nightmare Warriors)
Friday the 13th
Hack/Slash
Heavy Liquid
Insane Clown Posse
The Mask
The Mask Returns
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Tales From the Crypt
Wake the Dead

MAGAZINES
Cinefantastique
Creepy
Draculina
Femme Fatales
Scream Queens Illustrated

Currently in the midst of reading almost all my Cerebus the Aardvark books. Just finished High Society and am about to move onto Church & State I. The last book I have is Going Home, but I think I might get rid of it...I'd rather think of the ending of Rick's Story as the end of the story rather than the series' real ending, which I understand wasn't very good.

Other graphic novels/manga I have:

Akira (all six volumes)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (Volumes 1-11, getting Volume 12 soon)
Ghost in the Shell (a classic, check it out if you haven't already)
Ghost in the Shell 2: Man-Machine Interface (good but a little hard to follow)
Watchmen
Batman: The Killing Joke
Stephen King's The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born (think I might get rid of this one)

I own spiderman # 1.

I have all the beavis and butthead + ren and stimpy comics.

I have spawn # 1-100. Remember spawn? haha.

I guess I have a few pretty rare weird comics. But I'm just into them anymore.

atsonicpark 04.15.2011 11:52 PM

oh, but preacher + love and rockets are my favs, yeah

Hack/Slash is my absolute new favorite. I just started reading it, but I'll be damned if it ain't the coolest thing ever.

Dr. Felix:

buy the Crossed series from Avatar press. I just finished Alan Moore's Neonomicon series from the same comic house, and it was fanfuckingtastic.

Jacen Burrows is a fucking god.

I think Avatar also makes the new Night of the Living Dead books....

Dr. Eugene Felikson 04.16.2011 11:16 AM

^ That looks fuckin sick.

If you Google Image it, this is the second result...

You're talking about just Spiderman, right? The Todd McFarlane series, not the Amazing Spiderman?

This one (there's also a black alt. cover) :

I just won the first 25 issues of this, and the first 25 of the 1999 Peter Parker series for $30 at a comic auction. A damned good deal considering they're worth at least $3 a pop, and I got 'em for less than a buck each. Should be some nice reading in addition to the Amazing Spiderman annuals I've been snagging lately.

One of the coolest things about reading comics (back-issues) for me are all the retro ads. Especially those from the 80s/90s. It's so cool to me, to have a gem like Bonk's Adventure for the TurboGrafx16 professionally marketed towards me in the year 2011.

When I have more time, I plan on snapping some pics of my favorites, and uploading them on here.

Oh, and I also just won a copy of the first ever Hack/Slash comic (DDP - initial run), signed by Tim Seeley, off of eBay! Definitely the most prized book in my collection thus far.

I've been reading a few over at the free/donate site at electrocomics, recently read Chihoi's, Still Life, Papa and Sea, all recommended.

atsonicpark 05.25.2011 09:26 PM

Recently got back into comics. FEel exhausted with movies/music/video games but comics are doing it for me. Lots of "graphic novels": 20th Century Eightball, Pussey!, Blankets, Jeffrey Brown's highly personal true stories (got 9 novels by him, great true stuff), I got ALL the Love and Rockets "collected" books (there's 8 and each one is about 300 pages, and a 9th one is coming out.. also got LOVE AND ROCKETS: NEW STORIES 1-3, which.. eh... are okay).. I'm talking about these sexy things:

...it's so great to have all these in big beautiful collections finally.

just finally got all of Preacher and 100 Bullets... Black Hole...

Also bought all the Groening "Life in Hell" books like SCHOOL IS HELL, WORK IS HELL, CHILDHOOD IS HELL, LOVE IS HELL. These things are fucking hilarious!

Downloaded some Crumb "Weirdo" stuff which is great.

I dunno, just got a ton of random ass shit..

OHHH!

Got PRISON PIT 1-2 and the collected ANGRY YOUTH COMIX stuff, this shit is priceless..

I dunno, anything really really personal or anything weird or anything really funny is what I want.

Yeah, these comps are what I'm talking about. There are 8 of em now, though, with a 9th one coming soon.

I loved them all except I thought BEYOND PALOMAR didn't really have much in it that was interesting.

The volume called PENNY CENTURY was actually one of my favs... obviously all of Jaime's stuff is great, the grey-cover one with mario doing some comics was pretty funny. They're all worth getting, but I found BEYOND to be the least essential.

gast30 05.28.2011 04:45 PM

now i'm buying marvel/dc stuff

all kinds of batman, batmen beyond, batgirl, batwoman, batman incorperated
batman the dark night

and then i have some lucifera, horror, old conan the barbarian
