- it's kind of easy to see why people trash on it - not so easy to explain but i'd wager that a good lot of people don't give it a chance... likely scenester or whatever you'd catagorise it as. it's kind of indicative of the time it was made but it's also an uneven album. I think it's a great album though, some of the sound of it I really enjoy and it does have some of the best singular sonic songs on it. Like all great albums though I didn't like it on first listen but it slowly eeked in. The problem is I don't understand why it has a hard time when albums like confusion is sex are kind of accepted - graduated if you want. but eh, it doesn't matter I just worry that people judge things on completly different attributes than the ones that I understand.

Just put this on again today, for the first time in a while. Bull in the Heather was the first SY track I'd ever heard (without Cypress Hill). ASP's post (3 years ago) is pretty spot-on. Bull, Screaming Skull, Waist, and Tokyo Eye are probably the best on the album, and plenty of the lyrics are ridiculous. It's really fun though for that reason.
I had forgotten just how good Tokyo Eye was. I really like that odd sounding percussion sample. Is that what that is? Either way, it's really neat. I like Bourgeois Reader, and Sweet Shine a lot too. It's a quirky album, and SY are rarely quirky. "All your dreams will come true. All my dreams came true. But now, I have a bunch of other dreams." |
I like the album a lot. After Butch Vig produced 'Dirty' I think he did a great job on EJSTANS. I really like most songs and i totally love the art direction of the album.

I don't have it either, but it is one of my favourite records actually.

This used to be my most hated SY album but now I sort of enjoy the sleazy laziness of it all.

It's Kim playing a toy beatbox through her pickups, which is all she does throughout the song, I think. |
Thank you for explaining that. :)

Good/bad old times. This record makes me think of Kurt Cobain's death because it was the first one I've bought after his death. By then I had experienced two people close enough going the same way and it's been so long since I could really get rid of that baggage and really enjoy it. It's a great record. A SY favourite for sure.
