SHIT! IT'S TRUE!!
Prince is dead!!' What the FUCK? |
absolutely shocking...
David Bowie, Phife, Prince... ugh |
Crazy. Little Richard (83), Chuck Berry (89) and Jerry Lee Lewis (80) have outlived everyone in the rock n roll game.
|
Better not hear some lame ass fucking comparison between Prince and Kanye and no i am not being facetious or joking in any way.
|

Oh pull the stick out of your ass. Jesus fucking Christ. Prince just died. PRINCE. And this is how you respond? Ugh. |
Also, when you say you're "not joking" about how you "better not" hear something, what does that mean exactly? That you literally "better not" hear it? And what the hell does that mean?
If you'd said "I'm gonna kill anyone who I hear comparing Kanye to Prince," then I'd be like, oh, wow, this dude means business. But instead you effectively said nothing, and kinda told language to go fuck itself in the process. What subject do you teach again? |
I'm really bored by stupid bickering. SFAD can't fart without dissing Kanye West.
I think we should all take some advice from Thumper or whoever the fuck it was who said "if you can't say something nice.... y'know... don't be a dick," or whatever it was. Moreover, PRINCE IS DEAD. This is a goddamn tragedy. We need each other now. Things are so FUCKED!!! |

Rolling Stones fans said Tattoo You was going to be kinda like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and To Pimp a Butterfly? I thought was they said was: "yuck." |

No man, my problem is when you say asshole shit like "if anyone compares x to y I'm gonna leave. I'm kidding, but I'm serious cuz x is totally sacred you have no idea." And then Prince, who we all love, fucking DIES out of nowhere and what do you do? Write a barely intelligible sentence, the gist of which is "compare Prince to Kanye and I'll be mad, and I'm so serious" ... What the fuck? This isn't about Kanye man. I know you don't like him and I actually don't think of your Kane attacks as attacks against me. I brush them off and sometimes hit you with a limp-wristed Deftones dis, but I don't worry about it, and I consider it basically a game. When I have worried about it, you've assured me you were "kidding, it's all a game, but really thlugh..." Then you're back to saying "naw, man, I'm serious. I better not hear x compared to y." What the hell, SFAD? You think I have a problem with you insulting Kanye West? You think I take it personally? You're way off base man. I don't take what you say personally. I'm publically irritated by your flip-flopping bullshit. Why do you even feel the need to launch a "pre-emptive strike?" when we're talking about a man's death? That's messed up, man. Just wiggle that rake out of your ass nice and slow, and say what you mean, and don't back peddle on shit. And don't be so GOD DAMNED sensitive! So fucking what if someone compares someone to someone else. Get over it. You compared Ye to Donald Trump! I spent about 30 seconds on a reply that said, essentially, "I've thought the same thing, but naw." I didn't puff out my chest and get all Douchey Mgee about it. Just chill out! Take a Xanax. Seriously man. For a likable guy who I genuinely like, you really say a lot of frustratingly stupid shit when it comes to our silly little conversations about music which are supposed to be fun. Just lighten up. If a comparison is made, disagree with it politely, maybe throw in a light jab for fun, and move on! I say this because I love you (ish) and you need to hear it. :) |
Damn, fucking Richard Lyons died today too, at the same age!
Not that Negativland is a hip-hop café kind of group (at all), but still. Sad. And strange. I love Negativland. |
D'Angelo must be broken.. the torch is in his hands now. I hope this will somehow inspire him to go even harder..
|
I'd argue that Negativland overlaps hip hop just fine. I mean, sampling... Besides we all know that the Hip Hop Cafe is just a front for our little treehouse. The sign says "No Homers" - plural - we can have one.

yooo I forgot the new Ferg album was out today!!

No shit? Alright. Ima check this out. |
I love trolling Severian. It makes it still feel like this is Sonic Youth Gossip
|
... He quipped, knowing, in his heart, that his homie Severian was right and had his best interests at heart.
|
Haha listen. I really don't like when you make what i believe to be unfair comparisons. However no, its not that serious. I break your balls about it because i so strongly disagree with the comparison itself, not because i am in any way mad at you.

Well, thanks bra :) but I REALLY hate that douchebaggy "nope, sorry, I'm right you're wrong, I can do stuff you can't" kind of attitude. It reminds me of a guy I used to know. He'd pull really similar shit. Made me want to punch him. And correct his grammar. And make a fool out of him. In that instance it was more like, "the death penalty is wrong -- but your gay uncle is going to go to hell when he dies." Self righteous horseshit. |
And I'd be like, whoah whoah whoah..
Then.. I'd hit him with some *boom!* reason, and *pow!* logic, and it would bounce off his ass like bullets of off Superman. God I hated that guy. |

God, this fucking thread.
And btw, I loved Tattoo You back then, and I still love it today. |
I can't do '80s Stones. I can barely do '79s Stones. I definitely will not have anything to do with '90s or '00s.
But strangely, I love the early '90s Jagger song "Don't Tear Me Up" (???) |
12 reasons to die II is the best i've heard in a minute.

Hey, ah, NR... How are you feeling about ALWAY STRIVE AND PROSPER?
I've gotta say, I like the production but... There is something about Ferg's voice that I just can't jive to. I guess I didn't notice so much on Trap Lord, but even with that album I wasn't anywhere near as into as you and louder were. He sounds a bit like E-40, who I like, but whose voice is also a little ... hmm.. lame. Ferg is like 24 years old max and he sounds like a goddamn 40 year old, rapping about trap shit trough some weird Bill Cosby filter. (And not Cosby the rapist, Cosby the unthreatening middle aged '80s black guy... You know, the fictional Cosby!) Anyway, I like "Psycho" but not the chorus. I like the beats throughout, but I don't like the songs. I... I don't think I like the album, actually. To put it simply, I don't think I like Ferg. He sounds ridiculously "safe" for a guy who appeared flexin' in a lion pose on his first album cover. It just doesn't work for me. I'm a Rocky man. (Rocky maaaaan!) |
remember when I said I wasn't clicking with the new Kendrick and you were like "what? Weird!" Well...
I think this new Ferg is my 2nd favorite hip hop album this year. I might even like it more than Trap Lord. Ferg is an interesting dude. He wasn't even a rapper. He was an artist. I think he owned a t-shirt business. So he doesn't approach songs like a rapper would. Instead he's on some weird cadences, weird voices, etc. He's like Busta, cept I can't listen to a whole Busta album these days. I don't know. I think this album's pretty damn great. |
Hey I'm not hating. I actually feel kinda bad about it. And I totally get why Kendrick doesn't appeal to everyone, so I didn't mean to sound so shocked that you weren't into the new one. I guess I assumed you did like it for some reason.
Anyway, we all have our own tastes. It's fun when we all agree on things, but how often can that truly happen? |
So the new Beyonce is out on Tidal. And it's amazing. There's some rock on it..
|
An album?

This is her best album to date. Cements her as the best female pop artist of our time.

What's it called? I took Tidal off my phone and cancelled my subscription when TLOP dropped for real so I've heard nothing about this. |
I feel like every album since Sasha Fierce has been her "best album to date" ... She just keeps making these pop masterpieces, each one exponentially more awesome than the last.

I find bey interesting because she is a cultural icon and there are no competition BUT she doesn't seem to have the force and dominant influence that previous divas had. She is better than Modonna but i don't think she has reached a bigger peak than Madonna in her prime was!
