Jaco Pastorius died on September 21, 1987, just ten weeks short of his 36th birthday (incidentally, within weeks of the age at which Mozart died),

So what he died at the same age as Mozart?

Stevie Ray Vaughan, 1990, helicopter crash.

krastian 08.05.2006 12:33 AM

You mean musicians die? Geeez......you learn something new everyday.

Everyneurotic 08.05.2006 12:34 AM

duane allman and stevie ray!!!

i know it's a widely unpopular opinion here but srv ruled!!! his songs and interpretations were amazing.

and the allman's are hella underrated (althought i bet they are overrated in like alabama and oklahoma)

krastian 08.05.2006 12:37 AM

Yeah SRV and the Allmans rule.....I was just getting ready to say that acousticrock posted my favorite set of dead musicians on this thread.

acousticrock87 08.05.2006 12:40 AM

I love Duane and SRV. Blues is my first love. I've actually never really listened to Buddy Holly much, though. I just had to do a report on American Pie, and now in my mind he's the iconic musician-death.

Everyneurotic 08.05.2006 12:46 AM

several of these dudes are dead

Darby Crash, lead singer of the Germs, killed himself in a premeditated, drug-facilitated suicide that many believed was meant to ensure his own legend at age 22. Had it been a different week, the media might have run with a myth-making "American Sid Vicious" story. As a punk PR event, however, Darby's exit was poorly timed. About 24 hours later, a disturbed young man murdered John Lennon. --- Allison Adato

Epic Soundtracks was born on March 23rd 1959 and died on November 5th 1997. He was thirty-seven years old at the time of his death. Much speculation has been made of the manner of his passing. Suicide, drug overdose, et cetera. None of these can be accepted as being the correct cause of death. Simply the answer is that we just don't know why he died. We probably never will know.
I do know that over the past 6 months or so of his life he had been depressed about his last girlfriend. He had been looking forward to her return from the Caribbean-a few days before she was supposed to return she'd telephoned him and told him that she wasn't coming back-why I don't know. But then Epic always got depressed about ex-girlfriends. This was part of his character. One of the last things I remember him asking me was, "Don't you get depressed." I replied that I didn't. His comment was that he couldn't understand that.

A man believed to be responsible for the 1993 killing of Mia Zapata, singer of early '90s Seattle punks the Gits, may pay for his crime after nearly a decade. Jesus C. Mezquia, 48, was arrested late Friday in the Miami area and charged with first degree murder, according to a Miami-Dade County police spokesperson. DNA tests linked Mezquia, a resident of Marathon, Florida, to the crime scene and prompted his arrest. Zapata's body was found raped and beaten on July 7, 1993, near the capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. The drawstrings of her Gits sweatshirt were used to strangle her to death. Zapata was 27 yeats old.
Seattle police submitted evidence to crime labs for genteic testing last year, but it yielded no matches. Only after information on Mezquia, a convicted felon, was entered into the National DNA Index System in December was a parallel drawn. Subsequent evidence also placed Mezquia in the Seattle area at the time of the killing.

--- Mezquia would be found guilty in March 2004

SATAN PANONSKI / Ivica Culjak

Ivica Culjak,
was killed in the fighting in the initial civil war in the former Yugoslavia; however, the band has other releases out, so if you're the wordly, risk-taking punk you think you are, fuck that NOFX CD you were gonna buy and praise Satan Panonski.(Tony Fate , Flipside)

thanx to space monkey mentioning Satan. i remember putting a huge post in a Satan Panonski thread on the old board. the man himself deserves a lot attention-and he had really huge influence in former Yugoslav scene.

Clifford Lee Burton (February 10, 1962September 27, 1986) was a bass guitarist best known for his work with the thrash/heavy metal band Metallica from 1982-86.
Burton's early influence was essential in creating the unique musical style for which Metallica became famous. Burton joined the band in 1982 and performed on their debut album, Kill 'Em All (the title of which came from him), which was composed of songs that had been written prior to Burton's arrival. Burton's influence was heavier on the follow-up, Ride the Lightning, which showcased the band's evolving compositional technique. Burton's final album with Metallica, Master of Puppets, was a critical and commercial success. Burton was killed in 1986 when their bus crashed in Sweden while the band was on tour promoting Master of Puppets.
