There is.

Grab your guitar and play the lowest string.

Play these frets... note when I say 0, you don't even have to fret it...

0-3-5
0-3-6-5
0-3-5
3-0

Now come back to the board and tell us what awesome lick you (sorta, amateurishly, wrongly, but still) played.

Yeah, I know EXACTLY what my ex-old lady is doing, while I'm on here bitching...

she's sewing.

phoenix : make the hands move first. Then the chords will make sense, like when a kid learns to make mouth sounds and then ascribe letters.

Find a super easy song to play and find the tabs. Online tabs are an amazing resource.

The first song I learned how to play was About A Girl by Nirvana. Haha, what was it, Am, G Am, G ? over and over. Haha. But thats where it starts.

Do it for yourself, you'll feel so much better. The learning experience wont be stapled to anyone but you.

Yeah, youre definitely in one of lifes major gray points, where you adore someone and have strong bonds with someone, but somehow you're going someplace else.

How important is sex in your relationship, if you dont mind me asking? I mean, could you allow strong bonds to exist but have a wandered sexual compatibility, or is that kind of bond a true necessity ?

Yeah, I have the energy. I've only just found it, but it really came down to stopping pursuing her.

With our child and our history, I'm sure the strong bonds are here to stay. I will miss when some of those bonds involved us tying each other up, because I did really enjoy that. However, as infinitely annoyed with her as I am, I don't seem to have an ounce of hate for her. We'll see how things go on her end when I stop her from having access to my paychecks though.

you are never going to beat it if you don't stop romanticising!!!!

atsonicpark 10.15.2009 12:27 AM

Yeah, it's weird but it's cool.

Imagine the look on that girl's face.. I'm imagining it now, though it's kinda blurry.

I filled my entire carpet with cum! It was insane.

yeh I do that sometimes, but I'll go for a few weeks without playing and forget everything I've learned and it takes me a half hour to try and remember it all. It has never began to feel natural.

.. which makes it so hard for someone like me to stick with because I either get something straight away (or make super fast progress) or I dump it all together. I think the only thing that has made me never walk away from it ocmpletely is just loving music and wishing so badly I didn't suck ass at everything but rhythm. haha.

I just don't think you want to understand. If you really did, you could look it up on the net or figure it out yerself. Hell, I was taking guitar lessons and I still learned a bunch of stuff myself because I WANTED to play guitar and play songs... and write songs

ace job

alteredcourse 10.15.2009 12:31 AM

Meh., maybe stop thinking that you have to be a specialist ? Take it easy. Dont get so frustrated. If you're good at rhythm, maybe take some drum lessons ?

I've had books given to me, I've looked up things, I've had people teaching me. Seriously, it's just one of those skills I doubt I'll ever really get. It really isn't because I don't want to understand haha.

I never had a lesson, I picked it up and was playing Malmsteem solos the first day. Common sense.

alteredcourse 10.15.2009 12:33 AM

I think that you're born to do it, but you need to get some of that crazy energy juice out and just chill out and get outside of your head or something. Be dumb, even. And let it out.

It seems like you've got some expectations on your shoulders.

phoenix 10.15.2009 12:34 AM

I am kind of tone deaf which does not help.

alteredcourse 10.15.2009 12:35 AM

Hmmm ? How so ?

amerikangod 10.15.2009 12:35 AM

Ok, time to go shave my head and beat off and hit the hay.

In sum:

GET WET.

honestly I have less drive to sit around and play, because I'm living with someone who has absolutely no interest in being creative in any way shape or form. So this ends up being an excuse for me to not do it, because instead of being involved they tell me they can't hear the tv.

I think at some point something shifts in our brains and we have some sort of epiphany or change of thought in our life, not always musically related...you know, the same thing that makes that "bad boy" become a born again christian and etc. or you are stuck on that algebra problem and figure it out, then all of a sudden yr on to calculus the next week...

something snaps in our brains...

I always wanted to play music when I was a kid, wanted to play drums, tried my friends, and it was remeniscant of Steve Martin trying to 'snap' in The Jerk.

Then I tried to play his guitar and failed miserabley, stayed a fan of music, and by accident when I was 15 picked up a guitar that my dad was helping a friend sell on ebay and I jsut started playing it and it made sense...

something snapped in my brain...and that plus will...well now I can play every instrument I come across...and besides piano (im just ok at that) I play them all at the same skill level...

atsonicpark 10.15.2009 12:37 AM

Funny, my ex-old lady told me I was too creative, since I'd rather sit and play guitar than watch TV.

As in, if you played a bunch of notes and told me what they were, I couldn't then tell you what they were if you played them back to me. It's all a blur. Beats make so much more sense in my head.

TV is fucking bulshit, I'd rather have it off whenever possible. If it's too damn quiet then make some noise or put on a record for fucks sake.

It's just too mindless. Perhaps my mind is too busy to want to switch off.

atsonicpark 10.15.2009 12:40 AM

Fuck Art Let's Dance

DeadDiscoDildo 10.15.2009 12:40 AM

Yeah I was showing this girl my studio one time and going around playing the different instruments, and she said 'stop being so good at everything'....then I realized I had no chance to fuck her haha...

she'd rather I was the type to sit at her feet while she gossips

Seandi 10.15.2009 12:40 AM

I honestly think if I put in the practice I would be better but probably not anything other than basically okay. In my mind there is some concept of the whole shebang that would make sense to me that I just haven't cracked yet ( like the snap thing) but for the life of me I can't get there, or at least as easily as I usually get there with other things. Which is less than motivating.

That kind of thing can be improved with practice though.
