There was a woman in a museum in Oxford who, in one statement, managed to make to the top five of 'Glice's list of people who need to die', nestling just between Jimmy Carr and Sting. It was an exhibition of a load of Egyptian stuff - ankhs, scarabs, amulets and the like - and she said, in a tone that simply will not come across on that internet "Oh, aren't they lovely? And we're supposed to be the civilised ones". I'd never seriously considered kicking complete strangers in the cunt until that day.

RanaldoNecro - I thought it was the Belgians? (Y'know, Jacques Brel and all that).

Obviously, it'd be nice if people wrote a bit better, but there is such a thing as a context, y'know?

Having said that, I'd really appreciate fewer ellipses. Thanks.

I agree with all that (except the ellipses thing, actually, but whatever). Grammar can, and should, change. People need to get over it.

Well, precisely. And you're right about the ellipses, that's just my disliking of Jack Kerouac. I don't know how it is elsewhere, but there's a lot of so-called educated people in England who treat language like a museum object, who'll complete dismiss 1337 but are too guilty to apply the same logic to Patois, and will happily criticise, say, a North Yorkshire dialect.

Where I grew-up (York) there are always loads of American tourists, most of them very friendly and genuine, but a number of them walk around exaggerating their American accent and their American mannerisms, as if they're putting on a pantomime for your benefit. It's weird.

I agree with davenotdead. Likewise when there is a thread on here along the lines of 'your favourite -whatever- groups?' and everyone just posts pictures of said groups rather than naming them. I rarely recognise the ones I'm familiar with, let alone the ones I'm not. There's something annoyingly supercilious about it, an implied 'are you cool enough to know these by sight'? After all it must take more effort than just typing the name.

My grandmother treating my great-grandmother like shit.

When I invite my friend Mike over to my place and he just goes on the internet and plays my guitars and transfers his weird smell onto my furniture which I then have to febreze when he's gone whilst wondering why I'm friends with him.

When people put ho's before bro's. Especially if they're the only person you know at their birthday party and they leave you to spend the entire night flipping through their parents record collection as they fuck a bunch of stupid bitches upstairs.

People trying to 'get down with it'. I was at a baptism service in a protestant church the other day and it was ridiculous. They were passing out tambourines to little kids and the reverend was playing these cheesy songs on a casio as a bunch of people sang along out of tune. Give me a Catholic service any day- they don't bother trying to make concessions, they just get on with it and get down to some fucking SRS BUSINESS.

Realising I've spent hundreds of pounds on fast food this summer.

Cantankerous 09.01.2008 06:04 PM

Yer right - being yelled at by a God-Botherer > Blue Peter love-fests (and this from someone who loathes religion in all forms).

Another - people who are too cuntish to say thanks after me helping them out w/whatever. Yeah, that's right, I'm just the home help, eh? Fuckers.

Good, because, I'm afraid we'd have issues if you hated Alton. He's my non-Japanese food hero. I can understand the Summers hate.

I can't coming back to find that my group of friends has been torn asunder by the treacheries of a few members and I have to stay neutral.
