And sorry for the neg rep, Ni'k, old boy. I finally just couldn't stand the thought of somebody having so little sartorial imagination that he couldn't figure out what to wear besides jeans. I'm sure you understand.

I assure you--Asheville is NOT the south. Even North Carolina is not really the south. Go north of the Carolinas border and you are in a whole other world.

Mrs and I are quite enamored of western North Carolina and especially Asheville. It's actually a lot like Portland.

i shudder. but whatever works for you. anything south of the mason dixon gives me the willies. if deluding yourself into thinking that asheville is like portland works for you, i say pursue those delusions while they last.

But it is! Have you been here? The place is wonderful. I've been here almost a year and I like more every month.

I would say that Portland has done a better job with urban planning, and in fact, is known as a model city in that regard, e.g., mass transit, green building, controlling sprawl, etc.

But Asheville is a wonderful, liberal, cultural center. There are city things to do and it's nestled in the beautiful blue ridge foothills. Asheville and Portland are very much sister cities in many respects.

And hey, there's a local brewery about every other block!

ni'k 12.12.2009 01:12 PM

ha don't make this turn into a rep war.

the repshed must stop.

gmku 12.12.2009 01:12 PM

Bring it on, please. Thanks.

ni'k 12.12.2009 01:13 PM

no. i'm not going to be all rep conciouss. it's stupid.

gmku 12.12.2009 01:13 PM

It's actually my way of trying to get rid of some of my points. It's obscene to have so much.

ni'k 12.12.2009 01:15 PM

caring is perhaps worse

gmku 12.12.2009 01:24 PM

Pointing that out is even worse still.
