also, remember when I was talking about great guitar tracks by Pavement? I thought of another up there with "Grounded" and "You Are A Light".... f'ing "Father To A Sister Of Thought"... that song is so unreal to me. I love it so so much.

Box Elder. What a song. See that clip on Slow Century when they're playing it in the street?....it's total awesome. I'd love to buy Gary Young a beer or something, kick back and listen to his fave band....Yes!

GY took acid every day for a year. What a nut-job!

noisereductions 08.28.2009 05:14 PM

Yeah -- that Slow Century DVD is great.

pinkstation 08.28.2009 05:37 PM

haha i think the DVD is wonderful jsut because they didn't try at all. half the interviews are in some random sauna, and the graphics and old interviews are poorly put together.

shitty quality, but for a "pavement documentary" it's perfect

atsonicpark 08.28.2009 05:44 PM

Malkmus mentions Beefheart on it.

TheDom 08.28.2009 07:36 PM

Slow Century has fucking MARK PRINDLE in it!

pinkstation 08.28.2009 07:46 PM

slow century proves to all that:
a. lollapalooza was a ridiculous idea
b. bob nastanovich is the coolest member of pavement

Sadly, I've always really really liked Pavement, and have had moments bordering on totally falling for them, but could never really make that leap to full on doe-eyed obsession. I guess it's because I only came to them in the 00s, after having been into a lot of "indie" stuff like Sonic Youth, the Minutemen, ETC for some time already. It was too late for them to be that ear-opening band for me, so they'll always just be "another (great) indie rock group", rather than something truly integral to my musical being. That being said, S&E and CRCR are both fantastic records, they have written some of my favourite songs (more love for Gold Soundz!), and yes, the reissues are pretty much the benchmark for these things. I keep meaning to check out their post CRCR output, but I've just never gotten around to it...

Pavement has always sort of been my "2nd favorite band" band. (but then y'know there's a few others too)

schizophrenicroom 08.29.2009 09:43 AM

same here NR, theyre always gonna be right in second place for me

Slanted and Enchanted was an awesome album.

It's been a while since I heard Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain in its entirety (sp?), but the songs I've heard more than once tell me it's good.

Wowee Zowee was great.

I've never heard Brighten The Corners or Terror Twilight front to back, but the songs I've heard off those albums make me think Pavement peaked with Wowee Zowee.

My second fluctuates between Pavement, Sebadoh & Stereolab. Or The Fall.

Pavement are a band I was into heavily for a few weeks and then never had the desire to hear them again.

This album was definitely their best one but a lot of their material seemed dull to me.

greedrex 08.29.2009 05:32 PM

you guyz are still discussing Pavement??? hahahahahahaha
