i was on holiday in tuscany at the precise moment it came out and i drove a lot of mileage and talked to a lot of record store salesmen til i finally could lay my hands on a copy of ms the day it was published in europe. next thing i remember is finding the highest spot on the old town of San Gimignano, lying down beneath a tree and hitting play on my discman. fuckin great record. i also remember lying on the poolside listening to this wonderful album while two little girls that almost looked like the girls on the cover were jumping all around. SERIOUSLY: what a fantastic album.

Who is Murray Street anyway?

He was an English roadie that worked with the Youth on their previous tour. He was tragically killed by falling amps.

RIP Murray

I went to Murray St. once, and knocked on the door. It was right after the album came out.

I find Murray Street and Sonic Nurse to be the compliment to each other, they both have a really nice sound to them.

Murray Street is a great album. I just played it about an hour ago. All the tracks are great. It's really great to listen to when you don't have anything to do. Time just flies by.

ZEROpumpkins 01.30.2009 10:47 PM

Plastic Sun bothers me a little though.

joe11121 01.30.2009 10:48 PM

Why? I think it's a cool track.

ZEROpumpkins 01.30.2009 11:25 PM

Nah it's too "Kim" for my liking haha.

joe11121 01.31.2009 01:06 AM

Hahahhaha

atsonicpark 01.31.2009 01:38 AM

plastic sun sounds like a song they could've written in 2 seconds

uhler 01.31.2009 02:12 AM

it's an sonic youth album. pretty boring at times.

atsonicpark 01.31.2009 02:21 AM

Agreed ...a wonderful, 8 minute or so studio mixing board solo. Fantastic. Love the clapping at the end.

greedrex 01.31.2009 07:15 AM

Thanks for that. It was nice of them to commemorate him like that.

One of my favorite SY records. I love the merge between pop songs and textured noisy bliss. The comments on Karen revisited are spot on, so I won't add to them, Plastic Sun actually was written in 2 seconds, Sympathy For The Starwberry is so so so underrated/appreciated, etc, etc etc.

Also I can't rep asp, but his comment made on A Thousand Leaves being the perfectly executed mix of noise and melody was absolutely true.

al shabbray 01.31.2009 01:19 PM

yes he is right, but 1k leaves is a lil bit too long. and there is some truth innit that they ve overdone some tunes on it, I think.
so murray street over 1k leaves for me, but 1k leaves short after

Oddly enough, this is the most obvious piece of Jim's PRODUCING on the album.

Moshe 02.01.2009 12:46 AM

imo it is the best sounding SY album and one one of the best albums released in the 2000's.
