Your hyperbole left me gasping for air. No one will give a fuck about Kanye or his music in 20 years, except for 2 or 3 tracks on Oldies stations. "Critically revered" means that he paid a LOT of payola to the right people. |
Quote:
Okay that's just wrong. Kanye, whether you like him or not, has already become a hip hop legend. No debate. He will be remembered for as long as people remember hip hop. |
Damn, I listened to Yeezus for the first time in a while last week, and it blew my socks off. At first it felt a little choppy, and it was hard to pin down the album's parameters and sonic boundaries. It felt too short and oddly arranged. But now it's had time to develop an identity of its own, and it's an epic fucking pop album.

That's it.... You and me.... 2033... If I win, you suck my foot! Seriously, he's already outlasted artists that will be remember in 20 years! Fucking Red Hot Chili Peppers are in the rock and roll hall of fame, for fuck's sake. 20 years is nothing. Hell, OK Computer is getting close to that age. It's not hyperbole, either... I'd heard that this was somehow confirmed, and that MBDTF actually was the most widely praised critical album since OKC. I thought it was some kind of Metacritic deal. |
"widely praised critical album" means that Kanye is the one rapper that most white male record reviewers can get into. SaD

I don't understand what's meant to be so wrong with the video compared to other videos similar to his. He seems to have a sense of humour and he looks like he doesn't give a shit. The song is magnificent, one of the best pop songs I've heard in a while. You can't even see the tits properly and I doubt you'll remember this video in a few months time. The song I'm sure will be remembered for a very long time because of its brilliance though.
|
if you think it's the worst song ever you haven't heard my karaoke version of it, you piece of shit.
|
How do you know that I own a copy of Yeezus? You stupid? I stream shit on Spotify and shit.

Really asskiss? Worst song ever? It's a good old fashioned soul beat, with a feel-good Motowny sample, and a hook that sounds like it's mimics the feelings actual humanoids experience!! Seriously, don't do that. Worst song ever? Worse than "Bed of Roses" by Bon Jovi? What about "Cherry Pie?" Eddie Murphy's "Party all the time?" Fucking "Glycerine?" Don't be daft, punk. Especially if you're a Graduation fan, it should be the one song on Yeezus that's inside your comfort zone. ;) |
it actually reminds me of pre-Graduation.
Dood, I like "Glycerine." |

honestly, i've been listening to that song a lot in the gym lately. so yeah.. the beat, the hook and some of the lyrics are technically wack, but the song brings the hype! can't help it. also, i need to watch the visuals. i'm in London at the moment, thus my access to the internet is restricted and i need to save bandwidth. will do in a couple of days though. |
i'm wondering if Drake will step it up at some point. i mean he's making some really good records these days, but i don't feel like they'll go down as CLASSICS. Jay dropped The Blueprint after a series of decent albums though, and to me, Drake is kinda like a young version of him.. but i also have to keep in mind that Jay's debut was fucking Reasonable Doubt.

I know discussion has (rightfully) moved on, but christ, any of you kanye supporters, please watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S78tT_YxF_c#t=0 and tell me he isn't an unadulterated simpleton.
also, sev, using the critics argument can no longer cut it in the 21st century, for better or worse. them supporting him unanimously, likely on the back of pitchfork riding him like a fucking donkey, has made them ripe for indictment as a joke of an industry. as above attests, he is stupid, a deluded, infantile fuckwit whose head is so far up his own arse as to completely eschew the entire rest of the world from his considerations. not going to get into the talent debate, because if someone like kanye west can be deemed high art then the matter is blatantly subjective. |
Sky Ferreira's album is fucking awesome. gonna end up in my top 3.

"You Song" by Wayne and Chance is fantastic. they both killed it.

hell yeah. That's the highlight of D5 for me. That track is amazing. |
CREAM has some of Wayne's best bars in years, too.
"man it's been a minute since i seen my nigga Bubble some niggas fade away, some niggas hit the jumper kidnap your niece, don't cry, call your uncle we don't wanna hurt you, baby, we just want your uncle" |

so where exactly does this RHYME? Fuck this half-assed bullshit. mispronunciation is not rhyming. |

yeah "CREAM" is good but I don't know. It feels like nobody else should rap on any beat from 36 Chambers. |
Yeezus is RollingStone's #2 album of the year.
Forget who's #1.... Doesn't matter. I just wanted to share this with you all. This means it's time to stop ducking around and actually create year end lists. I think I have my cross-genre list down pretty well, but my hip hop list is undergoing changes. Like, Underachievers were really under appreciated this year. Their album holds up, and is crazy good. Wasn't expecting that. More later. |
I'll make my list when year ends, but I'm pretty sure it's A$AP, Kanye and 8 others...
|
Quote:
Revised this list and unless something really kick ass comes out in the next three weeks I'm sticking too it! What is fantastic is there are at least five records that didn't make this list that were also good, so I dare say 2013 is the best year of the 2000s for hip-hop. I haven't even found 10 rap records I like in one year since the 1990s!! Also, can't believe I slept on the top-5 (Priest, Talib, Ghostface..) records of the year and was sixth months late to the party yo! |
Jay-Z ranked his discog and commented each album:
Quote:
i'd rank American Gangster above Vol. 2, and Magna Carta below the Dynasty. otherwise i agree. it's nice that he's self-conscious. |
^yeah good calls. But American Gangster is Top 5 for sure. And I'd put BP2 way higher.
|
funny he left off collab albums. Prob so as not to diss the other party...
