boris metal?
unexpect metal? kayo dot metal? next you'll be telling me mogwai are metal. |

As though Ministry are metal themselves. |
Marcos if I recall you called Unexpect "the metal Koenjihyakkei". Obviously, they're avant-metal but they are defintiely of some metal variety.
Unexpect (often capitalized uneXpect, unexpecT, UnexpecT) is an avant-garde extreme metal band from Montreal, Canada with an amalgamation of different styles of music, including black metal, death metal, progressive metal, melodic heavy metal, European Classical music, opera, medieval music, gypsy music, electro, ambient, noise, circus music, and jazz. Though I definitely disagree with Kayo Dot as metal. Boris is... some of their stuff is doom metal but as a whole I dunno. Ministry are industrial. Filth Pig has a lot of metal though. Metal is a pretty broad term. |
i'm just being the prick who gets very anal about what's metal and what's not.
unexpect are kinda like koenjihyakkei covering manowar; ahauahauahauahaua!!! |
Are White Zombie considered metal by the Sebadoh posse these days? I can never tell what's metal and what's not anymore. Things were so much simpler before Grunge came along and confused everything.
|
Either way, "indie kids" would hate White Zombie I'd imagine.
White Zombie were fuckin great though. |
Greeting pop pickers,
I've no idea whether the kids are into this, but they should be, innit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UqWiENMkdU PS I fucking love Head Of David's "I Am Roadkill", by the way. |

For one album, White Zombie were the dog's bollocks. Then they just became common all garden bollocks. I get pissed off with indie types only going for the extreme end of metal. It's like all they want is extreme this, extreme that. Have these people never considered the value of a bit of light and shade? |
Personally, I non-ironically love Grim Reaper. Rock you to hell.

it is, very cunty and annoying. when i saw dimmu borgir, the singer guy doesn't actually do his rasp himself, the sound person actually uses mixing board effects to pitchshift and distort his voice so it sounds black metal; they would bypass the effects in between songs and the guy was trying his hardest to make a sinister voice to annouce the songs, but sounded like a squeky voiced dork instead, it was hilarious. |
bahahaha.

For fuck's sake. you're just making up names now. |

ohh yeah, re: white zombie i think they were brilliant all throughout their career, even though astro creep 3000 at points goes too much into ministry rip off territory, i think it's an amazing album. i might be one of the few people who love gods on voodoo moon and "more human than human".

well, i'm probably one of those people, i started getting into extreme metal stuff about 4 or 5 years ago because the heavier, darker end of the "indie" world seemed to die off at the end of the 90s. to be honest i don't really see the point of non-extreme metal. |

I think you might be right there. |

Yeah well, you're different. You're British and therefore intelligent. Its the non-British people i was really directing it at, especially the Dutch. |
more human than human kicks ASS.
love the slide guitar! |
my definition of metal is that it should be extreme for it's time.
as much as i have fun listening to poison, warrant, et al. i don't for the life of me consider them metal. |

yeah Black Sabbath rules so do Melvins and Kyuss |
the dirty panies

i rue the day the hipsters get to like manowar and the like.
|
It's surely only a matter of time. Manowar are ripe for a bit of ironic appropriation. If anything, I'm surprised it hasn't already happened. Maybe it has. Maybe there's a bar in Williamsburg right now that has a whole jukebox filled with Manowar.
|
manowar are so damn funny, they are amazing!
|
Quote:
Listen to you. I can positively smell your ironic hipster aura from here. Oh, and by the way. I absolutely agree!:o Lets open a bar in Brooklyn together! |
hahahahahahaha.
|
We could sell pabst to Free Kitten groupies, wearing spikey leather codpieces. We'd make the cover of Vice magazine and Nylon in no time.

You'll be playing the Old Blue Last in Hoxton too. Any chance of me coming in on the guest list? |

i know a bar that has a manowar album in the jukebox. hipsters are starting to get into metal, but it seems to be only death and black metal with little doses of iron maiden thrown in. |

I'm non-british and fairly unintelligent and I feel the same way when it comes to metal. I just find that the more extreme something is the more genuine it seems. However, I'm always open to listening to a band if someone recommends it and I try to be as open-minded as possible when it comes to judging music. I understand what you're saying, though. It's like hipsters who won't listen to Death Cab because people have heard of them. |
i was listening today to morbid angel-blessed are the sick. awesome album, but unfortunately the vocals are understandable and death metal lyrics are really lame
that's the good thing about bands like cryptopsy, even though the lyrics in the booklet are stupid as fuck... the vocalist isn't actually saying them the song phobophile is good, but i could never enjoy it if i could actually make out these lyrics In the kitchen With a screaming triple amputee... Its completion depends solely On my needs... Said amputee's stumps Are my way of saying... "Thank you Just for being you." Its fear tastes better than it's limbs. |
I've been listening to Ved Buens Ende's Written in Waters a lot lately. It's probably my favourite metal album.
|
don't like metal.
