Ah, you're talking about Beefheart's drummer. Yeah, he did a really good job on Trout Mask Replica and other stuffs.
Good call, Adam.

Yes, it is. One of the better ones.

Stuart Dennison (Skullflower, Ramleh) - A truly great drummer back in the late 80's to mid-90's - simple yet very effective.

Just remembered Klaus Schulze, for his early Tangerine Dream/Ash Ra Tempel efforts.

I've decided my favourite is Jeffrey Wegener of the Laughing Clowns. Now I want to play drums.

CAN FTW.

atari 2600 07.11.2008 08:40 PM

Lately, I can't get enough of Elvin Jones...say, 1961-65.

terriblecanyons 07.11.2008 08:42 PM

My favorite drummer is actually every drummer from a post rock band ever.
Next to Orri from Sigur Ros.
But I picked Dave just cause he's awesome

Cantankerous 07.11.2008 08:46 PM

the drummer for king crimson, whatsisname...bill bruford? excellent.

nick mason from pink floyd is a hell of a drummer as well.

keith moon = favourite drummer of all time

terriblecanyons 07.11.2008 08:47 PM

Mason is a tad too repetitive for me.
Keith Moon is god.
And who could forget Bonzo? Fucking beast.

Quoted as truth.

I'd also like to throw in Simone Pace and Zach Hill

bonzo was indeed a beast. love him. him and keith moon drove a car into a swimming pool...they were a couple of crazy bastards and i imagine very dangerous in combination.

then the list goes like this.

chris penne(dillinger escape plan)
danny carey
matt cameron(soundgarden)
todd trainer
liberty devito(billy joel)
max weinberg(bruce springsteen/late night w/ conan obrien)
abe cunningham(deftones)
kellii scott(failure)
brendan mccanty(fugazi)
tracy coss(spider virus. a local band. if only you guys knew how he played.)
zach barocas(jawbox/the up on in)

terriblecanyons 07.12.2008 05:08 AM

How dare I forget Roger Taylor (Queen, not Duran Duran)?! He's a drummer, he's blonde, and he's actually SMART, something increasingly rare both these days and in the drumming world.

whoa. that's a great pick.

DeadDiscoDildo 07.12.2008 02:49 PM

Max is great, that whole band is pretty damn good for a talk show band. I swear to god one time they broke out into a song from in utero I just can't think of which one. I'm talking an obscure nirvana song like very ape or something. they do some clash sometimes too.

they're all pretty damn funny too
