SYR 7 Available April 22
The seventh installment of Sonic Youth's series of experimental + sometimes instrumental releases will be available on April 22, 2008 in a vinyl-only edition self-released on the band's own SYR label. The A-side, 'J'accuse Ted Hughes' is a previously unreleased 22 minute drone-piece recorded by Sonic Youth at the All Tomorrows Parties Festival in the UK April 2001. At ATP the band previewed instrumental and early versions of songs from the then soon-to-be recorded 'NYC Ghosts and Flowers' and performed this premiere + exclusive performance of 'J'accuse Ted Hughes'. The B-side, 'Agnes B Musique' is a soundtrack-style piece recorded at the band's own Murray Street Studio in 2001 for a never-to-be realized collaboration with French clothing designer Agnes B. This 18 minute long musical piece was recorded with a 5-piece version of SY, the 4 members of SY being joined by Jim O'Rourke who also mixed 'Agnes B Musique'. SYR 7 and the recently released 'Master-Dik' CD are available here.

I've always been a big fan of the SYR stuff so I'm looking forward to #7.

I hate to re-open a can-o-worms, but I can't help but picture how amazing that artwork would look as a CD digipack!

SonicBebs 03.13.2008 07:45 AM

didn't syr6 come out as vinyl only at first too?

SYR6 didn't come out on vinyl at all.

SonicBebs 03.13.2008 08:04 AM

really?
I remember when it came out (uk) i couldn't find it anywhere, then i got emails from people about its realease and got it. Thoughtn it was cause of different formats. Maybe it was released later over here. Or maybe i'm muddled

Might've just been tougher to initially find in the UK since it was on an indie label rather than Geffen/Universal.

True... but it will look even better in the larger 12" format so I for one couldn't be happier.

It is the headline from the NME review of the now infamous ATP appearance...

(sorry if I'm stating the obvious!)

noisereductions 03.13.2008 09:01 AM

OOOOOOOOOH! I missed that! ha.

nobye-noaloha 03.13.2008 10:47 AM

still me and the band.

noisereductions 03.14.2008 01:53 PM

It looks awesome, Chris! I actually think I like the style of this and SYR6 more than the earlier SYR's. This one is probably my favorite cover of the series.

Make it on CD for me. haha.

what the eff--- are these licensed?

mil_pl 03.14.2008 04:42 PM

@chabib: its great cover! send me bigger version, can you?

sergisonic 03.15.2008 05:35 AM

remembering the streaming video of J'Accuse Ted Hughes... What a fucking great show, with the early versions of NYC ghosts & flower LP. justice for one of the greatest experimental performance of the band! ;)

radarmaker 03.15.2008 06:28 AM

So what language is it? French again?

And yeah, the ATP performance was pretty sweet, though something of a head-scratcher. Me and a couple of people I was down there with sneaked in the back and watched the soundcheck beforehand - we were sat there for about 40 minutes wondering when they were going to stop tuning up and actually play something, and then it wasn't until the gig that we realised they had been :)

chabib 03.15.2008 09:18 AM

it's ancient french. the titles are french because, well... the titles are french, but all of the credits are in ancient french.

sergisonic 03.16.2008 09:43 AM

cool. maybe someday we'll see the amazing but short goodbye 20th century show at SONAR electronic and advanced music festival in SYR Catalan ;-)
