I like what I hear so far. Yes, Lee is known for being a purveyor of noise rock, if you will, but behind pretty much all the music he has done there has always been harmony and singer/songwriter aesthetics. To me, this just shows his diversity.

E. Noisefield 02.17.2012 01:16 PM

that "just some other girl" line does sound a little crap.

It's like when Jeff Tweedy decided to write a song based on the "You say we're just friends" cliche. That was disappointing.

blunderbuss 02.17.2012 02:38 PM

It's reviewed in this month's Wire - can't remember what they said though, I just quickly glanced at the review in the newsagents.

why don't you order it from amazon?
If you order it from Amazon Germany it'll cost you WITH shipping to Sweden about 24 € or so and you won't have to wait as long for the packet to arrive as you'd have to if you ordered it from the States.

If you aren't in Sweden, check out the delivery charges from Amazon here:
http://www.amazon.de/gp/help/custome...?nodeId=505554

They don't have it in Amazon.co.uk for pre-order yet but if you pre-order from Matador they should post it to you early so it arrives on the day of release. That's the idea anyway...

rappard 02.20.2012 04:11 PM

@halfeatencake:
The "tak" was meant for Pelle, who's from Sweden. I'm in Dutchland, which very likely incurs the same S&H from the US.

@everyone else:
Thanks for the other merchants, will probably get it from the UK or Germany at some point after messing around with exchange rate calculations. Thanks/Danke/Grazie/etcetera!

hipster_bebop_junkie 02.20.2012 06:18 PM

Shit, I still need to pre-order as well. I think I can wait until it's available at the Sonic Youth Kung Fu store to purchase my copy along with the new Disappears record.

RanaldoNecro 02.20.2012 10:59 PM

Fine drumming by Steve on that Quietus track. The intro reminds me of REM.

Pelle 02.21.2012 09:07 AM

From ginza, a swedish online record-shop, 159 SEK (15,9 euro), pretty damn fine price!

I guess you can get it anywhere.. I saw u could pre-order it from Rough Trade.

I always thought that lee kinda looked like the guitarist for REM...

I wonder why the video director decided to enter images of 'explosions' during the explosions lyric?

It seems that Lee would be above that type of literal videomaking that I would call 'youtubian'.

sirki 02.28.2012 12:39 PM

Great stuff. Really looking forward to this, only a few weeks away. I hope the live recording will also be released shortly after.

Too tired to browse, do we know the name of the photographer who shot the cover pic?
actually I'd like to know who shot this, I assume it's the same person, but who knows..:

hipster_bebop_junkie 03.07.2012 01:22 PM

Kelly Jeffrey shot the cover pic. I don't know about the other one, though. Here's some info about the cover's origin (previously posted a while ago by Moshe):

nicfit 03.07.2012 02:22 PM

Thanks! I ended up browsing that very site this afternoon, but for some reason I stopped "going back" through the posts before getting to that particular one...ops.

Hmmm looks like the itunes version has bonus tracks that differ

11 - Stranded (Demo) [Bonus Track]
12 - Shouts (Demo) {Bonus Track]
13 - Waiting On A Dream (Demo) {Bonus Track]

Comes with bonus track(s) (subject to change)
maybe they will change to the same ones on itunes

ended up selling some blu-rays and ordered the Japanese version

dig it deeper

thanks moshe, that was awesome

Severian 03.10.2012 03:09 PM

I apologize, but "Off the Wall" is really quite dull. It's reminiscent of Dinosaur Jr's late '90s albums. I appreciate the spacey, MBV-esque intro, and Lee's voice is always charming, but that's not an outstanding tune. I will still buy the album.

here are some parts that i really like, although the whole thing gives me a very positive feeling, Nels' and Lee's thoughts are very energizing and inspiring.

So much of that is the tunings—and there are a lot of them on this record. And it definitely came from listening to Crosby and Joni. I mean, there are parts of this record that I actually referred to as “the Joni part” when we were running through them.

: ) <3 glad the album is coming in just a few weeks!

We rarely let ourselves get as delicate as “Hoarfrost” in Sonic Youth, though. But that might be my favorite recording of one of my songs in the whole Sonic Youth catalog.

Bakesalee 03.11.2012 04:25 AM

I love this album. It feels like a summer album. New life.

skipvacuum 03.11.2012 11:11 AM

i really don't know what i think of this album...i got an advance cd about 2 weeks ago and have listened to it at least twice a day since....yeah first track had a "paint it black" vibe...track 5 still bugs me out...whats up with the talkbox minus the talkbox...really dig track 6 but the upbeat part sounds alot like the "all along the watchtower" cover from I'm not there.

the more i listen...the more i like it though

i agree with "Bakesalee".....summer album......

i love Lee...always have

total Hippy Dream

i dig graves....seriously...i like em alot

jennthebenn 03.11.2012 01:34 PM

Y'all with the advances are killing me right now...I want this album today.

On the premierguitar.com interview, Lee says that "the songs were written on acoustics, and some had intricate picking patterns that were integral to the song, so I did a lot more purely rhythm work than I might have in Sonic Youth" - I'm hoping the bonus demos will reflect that!
