It's not that strange a thing if you think that Vaclav Havel was able to get a copy of White Light White Heat while he was being persecuted. It shows a certain amount of determination and love for music, and I admire people like that.

True.

I put a track from "Midnight Mouse" on the mixtape I just did for the SY mixtape trade club.

wow, haven't see that thread. yeah, great underground chzech band. yes, they didn't get much international attention, which is pitty.
check another czech band from nineties Uz Jsme Doma. bit different, but cool. |
i finally got "Egon Bondy's Happy Hearts Club Banned" yesterday (2 years and a half after hearing for the first time a track by them and deciding i should try to listen to more!) and it's great.
i can see many elements that remind me of music i usually don't like (that must be the prog thing), but i certainly enjoyed the record on first listen, so it's a good sign. the shop where i bought it seems to have their entire discography (at least all those CDs that were released with covers using the same layout), so i might get hear more of them very soon... |
WOW, I didn't see this thread either! I think I mentioned them on some other thread at some point (I think I accidentally called them plastic people of the plastic universe) but no one said anything to me and I just figured I was silly for liking them.
Egon Bondy's Happy Hearts Club Band is great! A favorite! |
Quote:
Vaclav Havel and others (inc members of Plastic People Of The Universe) used to go into the middle of a forest near to Prague late at night, in order to listen to the Velvets, Mothers Of Invention etc. This whilst they were all under surveillance too. A very impressive and moving story. |
Vratislav Brabenec of Plastic People:
|
Milan Hlavsa (left, the original bass player and singer, deceased in 2001) and Egon Bondy (right, Czech poet and philosopher, deceased some 1,5 years ago in the concrete suburb of Bratislava called Petrzalka). Bondy's works inspired Plastic People of the Universe in creation of their legendary LP "Egon Bondy's Happy Hearts Club Banned.
