I think Ibold has been busier than Malkmus in the past year, musicwise anyway with all his SY work, Malk's wife just had another baby.

Saw Pavement 4 times that I remember, they were fairly fucking precise and startling. I'm one of those people who prefer the later work to the early stuff. As for the screwing up live, well, Westy cannot drum!

batreleaser 03.06.2008 10:38 AM

theyre gonn fuck up

floatingslowly 03.06.2008 10:40 AM

sweet jeezuz I love me some pavement.

I'm not sure where I stand on reunions though.

people who stop playing music together all the time, don't play as well as they did, when they do.

What's wrong with plaid?

I've read a recent interview of Malkmus where he strongly denies this, scrabble and all.

afterthefact 03.06.2008 12:04 PM

If it's anything like the pixies reunion, they should just leave it alone. They had a good thing, and we still have their albums if we want to hear them again.

Reunions kind of come off as "hey, we're all broke now, we should play those songs again and get some more money."

sarramkrop 03.06.2008 12:08 PM

Actually, I am not terribly fond of Pavement, but they were an awesome band live when I catched them on their last days. Still, I have stuff on the cooker that is more important than them reforming.

afterthefact 03.06.2008 12:16 PM

What other reforms are coming up?

pbradley 03.06.2008 01:26 PM

Hmm, I wish I had a friend that was into them. Pavement have never really been my thing but seeing them play live with a friend sounds worth a ticket.

As for bands reforming, a lot of popular indie rock bands don't interest me so I guess its cool but only with bands that are down to earth enough. A reunion should be the band getting back on stage, plugging in, and jamming with no real promotions apart from fan buzz, in my mind. Seeing Dino, Pixies, and JMAC on whatever late night shows put a bad taste in my mouth. Then again, I'm very naive about money (which may explain why I barely ever have money for groceries).

I enjoyed the Pixies reunion. The Jesus and Mary Chain reunion looked fucking lame though. That new song really sucked the big one.

I think a lot of bands are reuniting because file sharing is giving their music a much bigger audience then it had in the 90s.

Glice 03.06.2008 02:40 PM

Reunions - Yes please to Les Rallizes Denudes, no thanks to [insert college rock band].

Pavement - Shite.

The Fall - Better.

Comparing the Fall to Pavement - Shite.

Cantankerous - well-named

T&B, 'Marras - Well-written.

Bedwetters - Bedwetty.

Me - doubleawesomecore.

dinosaur jr's reunion had very little industry buzz whatsoever, the only people at shows were hardcore fans. it was AWESOME
I died and went to heaven that night on a wall of skronk!
get over your money "naivette"
we all need money. bands need money. they are not ascetic monks looking to propagate some sort of religious experience, they are bands, and they want people to PAY to see them ROCK, because they are WORTH IT
