blah. you're no fun.

demonrail666 06.15.2007 12:14 PM

I have to be honest, if you're not in the mood for it, you might just switch off from an album like TMR, making it quite boring to have to sit through.

^ haha. I remember reading that and loving it.

Beck's camp fascination for the myriad of pop styles he affects to adore reflects a typical American hipster's basic contempt for modern culture. He refers to The Gap band's "fat beats" as "musical hamburgers" which sums it up - pop is fun but not especially nutritious and even though we know better, we can't help ourselves. That's his attitude that has him eat up American folk music and r&b, yet mock it in his silly rhinestone outfits or the lampooning dance steps of his 1997 MTV Awards performance.

^ Spot on!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to sarramkrop again.

Blinded by the chancellor we had oysters and dry Lancers and the check when it arrived we went dutch dutch dutch, catch a redder shade of neck on a whiter shade of trash and this emery board is giving me a rash
I'm flat out, you're so beautiful to look at when you cry. please don;t move, you;ve been chosen as an extra in the movie adaptation of the sequel to your life.

FABULOUS!@

LittlePuppetBoy 06.15.2007 01:37 PM

Why does that guy slag on he Marx Brothers?

lungfish 06.15.2007 06:10 PM

proof that no opinion matters but your own.
whether you're famous or not is irrelevant.

i can't believe Alex can't enjoy Marquee Moon
i get what he means by sometimes it meanders off somewhere
and you'd wish they get back to the great intertwining hooks they so masterfully execute.
but still, that album is guitar gold.

speaking of "great intertwining hooks they so masterfully execute"
the last 45 seconds of Venus makes that album genius. overrated it isn't.

I totally agree. They're funny. A lot of Groucho's lines are classic. My dad got a 4 dvd set of theirs (it has Duck Soup in it).

LittlePuppetBoy 06.16.2007 01:29 PM

Does anyone else feel that Ian Rankin's (I have no idea who he is) review of VU and Nico was a bit bollocks? The fact that he says Black Angel's Death Song and European Son are "completely unlistenable" kind of shows his openness to expirementalism.

And what does he mean by the "black raincoat brigade"?
