Exactly.The great majority of people i know in London are sometimes from countries that i didn't even know existed and that's the good thing about living here.I'd be nervous to meet someone from Bora Bora,though, and that's because it is the most fantastically named country in the world and i have never met anyone from there before.

I live in a part of London that has a very large Pakistani population but I have to say that everyone I hang out with there is white. However, I like to think that this has more to do with the cultural isolationism of so many of the Pakistani/muslim people I live around than any prejudice on my part. I'll talk to anyone but if they show no signs of wanting to talk to me I'm not going to kill myself trying to break the ice.

I like black people, and is still wonder why whities call them black when it's quite obvious they are mostly "insert all the different degrees of brown" coloured.

in the movie Biko, denzel washington as Biko is asked by the judge at his trial why his people want to be aclled black when they are more brown than black, and Biko asks him why they want to be called white when they are more pink than white

I like hanging out with people of different backgrounds. I learn more that way.

If i must be serious though, i understand how the starter of this thread feels and you shouldnt jump to calling them a racist or anything. Learning that everyone is essentially the same on the inside is what experiencing life is about innit. I'll go back to laughing at the website now.

This is a dangerous statement, mainly because you fail to point out that this 'cultural isolationism' is a two-way process. If you don't go out of your way to befriend 'them' (speaking as if they're some homogenous mass of 'others'), 'they' won't go out of their way to be friends with you. If they're muslim, there's a strong chance you won't meet them in the pub, but that's not to say 'they' won't go into the pub or you won't meet them elsewise. The worst thing one can do in such a situation is assume that any group of people you don't know are somehow different from you - bottom line is, they go for a shit sitting down, they piss, they sleep, they more than likely wank before they sleep, and the men will, like yourself and most men, be somewhat tragically obsessed with the behinds of whichever sex is their preference.

your philosophy is a form of racial prejudice. the very fact that you spend so much of your internal dialogue in these situations thinking about racial/cultural stereotypes to avoid, is none-the-less thinking about racial/cultural stereotypes. stop thinking and just TALK to people...

Call me inquisitive but i live in a part of London that has a huge and predominantely pakistani population and,guess what,they are people too.I go into the local mosque sometimes and when chatting with some of the guys in there i can state that i'm an atheist of catholic extraction with no problems whatsover but just stimulating discussion.Do you know why?Because it's people i talk,not a group of robots.

Hats off to you Porkmarras for your social skills. All I can say is that I'm not someone who tends to make such efforts, especially amongst groups of kids that have regularly found it acceptable to harrass my girlfriend and her friends because they are, in their words, 'white whores'.
