a 2TB SSD is $500 and it comes up at only 4gigs/$-- maybe not much difference but still it's 500 bucks lol. so 750 is the sweet spot right now.

i'm also upgrading to 16GB ram (comes with only 4), so i gotta balance the budget.

later i can swap the DVD for another SSD, maybe a 2TB for data + portable video editing once prices come down or i find a project that covers it.

60GB enough? wow. hasn't changed much since times of yore. OSX has actually shrunk in size if i'm not wrong. win10 the same?

guess i'll have plenty. thanks.

Not bad on SSD, I paid like $80 for like 120g. I only have my OS and programs on that, media and shit like that are my HDD. Hmmm...I wish I played more games on PC, but I can't get a hang of playing at my PC. Perhaps it's my setup....And as far as the size of Win10. I have no idea, I haven't checked.

so how come you don't play PC? those are the most fun for me-- i guess the ones i'm best at-- strategy & rpg & etc. i suck at consoles--really clumsy with my thumbs. poor eye-hand coordination. 100% spastic. gotta rely on brain alone or i'm dead.

EVOLghost 11.08.2016 04:13 PM

I think it's because hardware. While consoles may be expensive, they're bought like every 8 years. I also grew up playing console, heavy on platformers, adventure, and fighting. The fact that PC barely got comfortable controllers is another issue. I always felt like PC pads/sticks were cheap and terribly made, and playing games which required movement with keyboard seemed absurd to me. So naturally, I stuck with consoles.

Hopefully one day I can go over to PC. As for now, I'd say I'm more arcade than console. The owner of a barcade I frequent treats us arcade rats really well. We're the first to know about new games and cabinets, we're really lucky. He's been huge in housing the old school players. he just got a proper cabinet for this game too

It's called Omega Fighter. These games are nuts. NoiseRedux is a fan of these games. They require some pretty insane hand eye coordination and I'm trying to go toe to toe with the owner and hopefully bring some SHMUP(the genre) hype in the barcade.

Anyways...I love video games, especially arcade games. They're so simple sometimes, but also incredibly challenging(since they want yer money). The harder the better sometimes. I love this virtual torture. Just ask NoiseRedux about SHMUPS and Dark Souls.

@NOISEREDUCTO

You need to visit Chicago. I have a feeling this Barcade will be the best thing to hit Chicago since Galloping Ghost. They recently put Radiant Silver Gun and Omega Fighter Special on the floor. Along with Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike this is slowly becoming the best arcade. They have Vampire Savior, Puzzle Fighter and a shitton of SMUPS waiting for a proper cabinet to place on the floor. The owner recently came up on something huge and won't tell us yet, but it's a big surprise. If at any point you plan on visiting or something you have to let me know, I can ask the owner if we can have a SHMUP night or something.

oh yeah i recall playing that stuff when i was "a wee lad" as they say

i sucked at it even then! i was the dead pacman, the squashed frogger, the aliens invaded me every time and donkey kong... i forget what he did cuz i could never get there haaa haaa haaa. my money lasted 5 minutes. later when nintendo came out-- super mario? stuck at level 1 forever. baseball? stricken out. i'm just no good at it.

when i was a kid i got an iq test. all results came out great-- verbal, analytical, math, memory whatever, all very good.

except for eye-hand coordination, for which i was rated...

"not retarded"

but see, i think she was kind and gave me just a few extra points haaaa haaa haaa

I have been strictly pc gaming for quite a while myself.

Yo if i ever get to chicago will check that place out!

noisereductions 11.08.2016 09:10 PM

Dark Souls games destroy me. But I adore bullet hell shmups.

hey, i tried to post you this yesterday but the board failed and then the country failed and i lost track

so....

that looks HUUUUUUGE! i won't have 1/10th of what you've got

so-- do you have all your OS and program installs on the SSD, then data on the 3TB drive? or how does it work?

my SSD arrives today of all days (good time to immerse myself in unrealities) and i'm thinking 250GB should be plenty for a just-games partition (no office, no photos, no video edit, etc).

noisereductions 11.09.2016 11:57 AM

that rig is 100% for gaming. I've got the OS, drivers, and apps on the SSD, and then games get installed on the HDD. Honestly, 3TB is total overkill for me as I often uninstall stuff when I'm done with it and don't think I'll be re-visiting in the near future. Shrug.

aahhh alright. yes. well no worries about overkill... stuff always wants MORE.

i'll set aside 250gigs for win10 and see from there

how strict are those games with the hardware? I've never played one and I always hear great stories about them.

noisereductions 11.11.2016 11:18 AM

what are your specs, Evol?

strategy games aren't too graphics-heavy, and might have movies, but you're not doing a lot of 3D shit in them.

some other games mix action and strategy, like the TOTAL WAR series. there's a map where you play and then you enter battle and it gets heavy with 3D graphics in motion-- like-- armies & armies, each unit rendered individually, it's insane..

RPGs can scale up or down depending on your system-- you can get ultra-textured characters or splotchy graphics by altering the video settings

they all have their minimum requirements and are adjustable though.

if you have an old system you can buy old games CHEEP. like, rome total war is like 12 years old? and it's fucking fantastic. 10 bucks maybe?

i also still play civ2 sometimes. it's superfun and it was perfect in its way. civ3 changed the design that lasts through today, wasn't very good, got fixed in civ 4 which was great again, etc.

noisereductions 11.11.2016 11:28 AM

wait...

OS: Windows 7 64bit / 8.1 64bit / 10 64bit.
Processor: Intel Core i3 2.5 Ghz or AMD Phenom II 2.6 Ghz or greater.
Memory: 4 GB RAM.
Hard drive: 12 GB or more.
DVD-Rom: Required for disc-based installation.
Video card: 1 GB DirectX 11 Video Card (AMD 5570 or Nvidia 450

Civ6 system requirements are surprisingly low. I bet if you turn down all the graphic settings you'd run it fine w/o even having a GPU.

noisereductions 11.11.2016 11:30 AM

which reminds me. If anyone is interested in some old 90s/00's physical PC games, or needs some PC components or USB controllers etc, lemme know> I have a ton of shit that I dont' need that I'm looking to get rid of.

really shitty. I can't look 'em up now, but everything is generic as fuck. The only thing that isn't shitty is the stuff that doesn't really matter(SSD/HDD). Shitty AMD processor and an awful graphics card.
