Isn't that a paradox? Most music labeled "ambient" nowadays is just moody instrumental crap, ambient-by-numbers at best.

Ian F. Martin (Ele-King.net): Did you find, while making this record [sleep like it's winter] that there are cliches in ambient music?

Jim O'Rourke: Oh, there definitely are. I kind of knew them before I started this because that's mostly the reason I don't listen to ambient music. I mean, pretty much all ambient music is major 7th chords, so harmony was going to be a big deal – how to approach harmony with this. Major 9th is also very popular: those are the two go-to harmonies in ambient music, if it isn't just a perfect 5th.

Fair point......however, clicking on the “FREE” link takes you to the Fabrica tweet promoting the release and that’s the wording they used.

Viaviolet - Celestial Static

Am I only listening to this because she's cute, trans, and has the same name as me? Yes. Is it good? Possibly, it's too earlier to check (but signs point to yes).

I’m working on a mixtape for a noise artist in California, do believe I will include something from this!

Cameron Stallones broke his hand in 2019 and couldn’t play any instruments for a while. During that time he arranged midi files for some classic DX7 covers:

I don’t guess that Friday releases apply to BandCamp, but there is still a month remaining in January:

I was trying out stuff tagged as "raga rock". Generally disappointing results, but I took a real liking to this, even though it's nothing like what I thought I was looking for:

"Wantlist In The Black Dot World Of Adventures" by Mats Gustafsson, available in a deluxe limited edition autographed by Mats:

Thematically, it made me think of a Mats Gustafsson solo show I got to witness some time ago, where he did improv inspired by snow and skiing (and also dedicated a particular piece to Johannes Bauer who had just passed away)...

Imagine a tree that was putting out fruit. And each of those fruits was different. But they were all your favourite fruit. And they were so ripe. When you bit into them you knew, absolutely knew, that they were endless, and full of juice. This amazing album is from JOINED BY WIRE and it is a cool retrospective link to their genius. Get it and be blessed.
