So I'm curious how everyone is finding this experience. Have you settled on a "method" for making tapes? Do you pick a theme? Is it just stuff you're currently listening to? Or what? How do you decide what you throw on that tape?

Hip Priest 10.10.2006 03:57 PM

I've had a rough theme for each one.

The first one was CDs from the 'recently listened to' pile. The second one was 'recently bought'. The third was an effort to put less guitars/ people singing in English on it. I'm most pleased with the third. I'll start the fourth this week, possibly tomorrow.

Пятхъдесят Шест 10.10.2006 05:50 PM

My fourth tape is totally off the chain.

golden child 10.10.2006 05:51 PM

when is this due?

HaydenAsche 10.10.2006 05:52 PM

I might get all up ins on this. When is it due?

Пятхъдесят Шест 10.10.2006 05:52 PM

Halloween.

HaydenAsche 10.10.2006 05:53 PM

I'll decide within the next week.

Пятхъдесят Шест 10.10.2006 05:53 PM

Both of you really should.

HaydenAsche 10.10.2006 05:54 PM

I'm considering just sending a Day Dream Nation tape out.

Пятхъдесят Шест 10.10.2006 05:55 PM

Say what?

golden child 10.10.2006 05:57 PM

HAHA

it has to be postmarked by then, or arrive in bloketown by then?

HaydenAsche 10.10.2006 05:57 PM

Instead of making a mix. Oh, nevermind. The joke isn't funny once explained.

good one

sun city girl 10.11.2006 02:54 AM

is there somewhere a thread with comments about previous tapes?

sun city girl 10.11.2006 06:39 AM

thanks. by the way, pookie collects the tapes, he's in england? why the u.s. people send just $2 while europeans 3 euros??? just wondering...

Glice 10.11.2006 06:42 AM

Put it down to exchange rates or something. Is anyone actually sending from EU countries? Oh, apart from Sun City Girl, I see, that question makes a lot more sense.

sun city girl 10.11.2006 06:47 AM

i can also send dollars if that's no problem... would be easier since they're notes, not coins like euros...

The theory is that tapes from Europe will go to the US and tapes from Europe will go to the US, and the cost of sending the tape to Pookie, plus the money enclosed in the tape to pay for it being sent on to whover is to receive it should be roughly the same wherever in the world the person lives.

For example, a person in the US might pay $4 to send the tape to Pookie and enclose $2 for postage from Pookie to somewhere in Europe, while a European would pay the equivalent of $3 to send the tape to Pookie and enclose the equivalent of $3 for postage from Pookie to somewhere in the US.

Trust me, I work in finance!

so why europeans have to pay twice the money u.s. people pay? but whatever, no big deal really.

Thankfully I just keep records, do calculations and make payments.

I would HATE to have to try to make a living from selling financial products, I think I would never have any money.

sonicl 10.11.2006 07:18 AM

I am probably too kind hearted, and I couldn't morally persuade people to buy things that they didn't really want or need. So if I had to sell financial products in order to earn wages, I would never earn anything.

As it is I sit in front of a computer all day doing calculations and I take home a nice little monthly salary, which I then proceed to waste on CDs:)

gmku 10.11.2006 03:51 PM

Finished mine for this round last night. I had no intention of creating a theme tape, but on replaying I noticed at least one or two threads weaving through it. Of course, this is probably somewhat inevitable, given the finite number of themes songwriters usually use. Kinda like, we hear what we want to hear. Anyway, it was fun. I even managed to include a whole LP in the tape (well, it's really more an EP or a very, very short LP--but it is kind of cool to to say I'd managed to do that! And still have a lot of room for everything else).

Brainstorming for cover art now...

Everyneurotic 10.11.2006 05:12 PM

spookie: what's the status of the tapes? have you received my cd-r?

Arrived at by consensus in the first round.

sun city girl 10.13.2006 02:44 AM

so it's more expensive to send from europe to u.s than vice versa? but ok, i guess that might be true.

No it's not.

sun city girl 10.13.2006 03:31 AM

but can i send you dollars then if i participate?

Pookie 10.13.2006 03:46 AM

yes, but it would be more dollars than euros, because your tape would be going to the US.

porkmarras 10.13.2006 03:51 AM

Pookie as i posted on the other thread, silly billy forgot to give you the tape last sunday so i'm not in round three anymore.I'm in for this one though.

sun city girl 10.13.2006 04:07 AM

so it would be basically $4... then again, sending euro coins might make postage bigger...

but whatever.

Pookie 10.13.2006 04:28 AM

Or you can Paypal the money to me.

sun city girl 10.13.2006 04:58 AM

yeah, but i don't have paypal...

but this is no problem, i'll send you coins if i have time and inspiration to make a tape for this.

by the way, should the tracklisting be included or not...?

Hip Priest 10.13.2006 02:19 PM

It's up to you entirely. Sometimes the tracklisting is included, sometimes it isn't. Just do what seems right to you at the time.

PAULYBEE2656 10.13.2006 05:06 PM

ive alreafdy sent mine in. i sent 2 for round 3 cuz i missed out on round one but time is precious so pookie, use that 2nd tape for mix round 4!

Hip Priest 10.18.2006 03:05 AM

The recording of my round four mixtape was completed last night. I think I'm quite happy with this one, although I had to put a Nocturnus track on as I couldn't find my Deicide records. It's not a metally mixtape or anything - there's a HUGE variety of music on there. I've got a new trick, too, so all of my mixtapes from now on are super-duper enhanced due to said trickstriness.

I've still got to do the art etc.

Hip Priest 10.18.2006 05:30 AM

^ Done it while the new washing machine was being fitted. It looks great - definitely my best so far.

ALIEN ANAL 10.18.2006 05:35 AM

This might be a dumb question but im new.

A mix tape...is it just of other bands..or do you make a mix tape of your own music?
