Wow, those videos have really made me sort of weepy and gross. Especially the feedback bit.
|
|
Wow. Total pro shot Gold.
Thanks Stu. |
A DVD of Alice In Chains' performance is available at dimeadozen, hopefully Sonic Youth's was also captured and will make the rounds as well.
|
Alright, I will admit it, the gig was really poor.
|
starts not so good, some other weak spots, but some REALLY nice songs in it imo.
The mix doesn't help much, voices a bit too high. T guitar sometimes too low, 2 basses "messy" sometimes (don't like K bass sounds on this vid). SS is AMAZING throughout the whole set though. |
Wow, glad there is a pro shot video of the "final" show but I've got to agree with the sentiment that it really doesn't sound like a great show at all.
I've never heard Kim's voice so hoarse or crappy before. Some of the her vocals were bruuuutal (even by Kim standards). Thurston "this song is called Sister" before Schizophrenia? poor Mark Ibold in the middle of this all. |

You're pretty new to sy, aren't you? |
No, I'm not at all. But I've only seen the band 5 times live and I didn't know Thurston refers to that song as "Sister" live routinely. I think I last saw that song live in like 2004 so I can't remember.
I'm assuming he does? (by your comment) |
Yep, it's likely Schizophrenia's "working title", and he often announces it as "sister" in live sets. Sometimes I forget not evey sy fan is a live boots collector :), to this day I'm pretty used to hearing him go "this song is called sister"..
|
Flower sounded good. It's pretty obvious that this wasn't a happy, good-vibes occassion for the band at least, so that one probably suited the mood.
|
Yo! I just found a 1 GB .mkv video torrent of the show at Demonoid:

I was also present at the gig in (the state of) São Paulo last monday. It was actually my first SY live show, but I've been listening to the band for quite some time.
Honestly, I was quite satisfied after the gig. Maybe the interaction between band members wasn't really vivid, but I think they played well and most songs sounded great to me. Kim's vocals were strange at some point, but her dancing during Sacred Trickster felt pretty spontaneous to me. Hopefully we'll all be able to witnesse more live acts from SY in the future. |
brave men run...
...what the fuck????? it's really embarassing, i feel sad. very bad way to say goodbye if it's their last show... |

os boatos dizem que esta foi, possivelmente, a última apresentação. mas... espero que vc esteja certo. |

Thankyou! |
Once again I was there. Right in front of the stage. Cause the rumors about the Sonic Youth end, I felt all the vibrations happy and sad. It's hard to explain. I look for my photos and videos on my camera and I don't know exactly what I still feel.
|
I wish I could have been there but I can't stand mud, shitty toilets and overpriced hamburgers. Damn OCD.
|
|
|
unfortunately they left with whimper instead of a bang
|
It really isn't that bad. "Brave Men Run" and "Sugar Kane" are pretty sloppy at times but it's not like they just whiffed the whole show. I also don't think this was the last show either.

AHEUHAUHEHAHA..good one... I think Mark is shy and he doesn't want appear so much in the middle of sonics playing crazy for all stage. :D |
no there was something seriously wrong w/ the brave men run bass part. other than that and sugar kane i guess it was not too terrible.
it's all kind of sad though. oh well.... |
The sound on video have some important difference than live show. I was there and was very loud more than the sao paulo gig in 2009. I think was the live transmition. Maybe the bass sound is more perceptive because the atmosphere of the set list.. old songs more obscure, raw..
[ Kim talked with their hold in the begin. Waving signals with hands like '' a little bit more up '' ] [continuing]...If you look all the South America repertoire this point is very present. And I like this...something unpredictable like Sonic Youth. Later I gonna post my short videos, it's no so good... just my angle where I was.. and the sound sucks.. my camera is not a big deal, good for memories. |
i was there as well. the concert was good (to me very good, last time i saw them was 2009, so), but it was indeed strange.
some have said that kim's voice was crappy - i liked it too. this brutal voice. |
Wow, Mote into Cross the Breeze was just unreal on so many levels.
The internet, man!! |
Love the fact that Ibold (as always) is beaming the whole way through!
