Kind of bizarre.

At least we both agree WZ rules and TT SUCKS.

SuperCreep 09.16.2009 06:48 PM

Well, they broke up about five years before I even heard of them and six years before I became addicted to them, so I'd really love to see them. I don't care how lame the reunion idea is.

Also, I love all of their albums. BTC can be my second favorite Pavement album on some days (first will always be WZ.)

atsonicpark 09.16.2009 06:49 PM

It's all about "SERPENTINE PAD".

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 09.16.2009 06:55 PM

Serpentine Pad is an awesome song

Pax Americana 09.16.2009 08:04 PM

Wow. Fer real this time!? That's kinda cool, I'd like a chance to see them live.

exploding plastic candle 09.16.2009 09:07 PM

I'm just super fucking excited to have a chance to see them live

exploding plastic candle 09.16.2009 09:07 PM

and, for the record, it's all about mofuckin pueblo

atsonicpark 09.16.2009 09:08 PM

Hopefully, they'll do an update of "Range Life", with new lyrics referencing how Smashing Pumpkins still suck and why the fuck are they releasing a new 44-SONG album?!

well played

GeneticKiss 09.16.2009 09:36 PM

Wrong--the whole Pumpkins vs. Pavement joke/arguement died so long ago, it doesn't stink anymore.

Jeremy 09.17.2009 03:12 AM

Tried posting the link a minute ago, but the new moderation thing deleted it, so....

There's a new Pavement tab site out there that is excellent, and has tabs for songs I've never seen before. Here is the link:

http://sites.google.com/site/pavetabs/

I also have a 1992 show if anybody is interested in it.... It features the one and only time they ever attempted Jackals from Slanted and the first ever performance of Range Life (In DADABE tuning).

~Jeremy~

atsonicpark 09.17.2009 03:14 AM

I don't want the show but I am curious. Do they just stop the song half-way through and go "aww, false grails... :("?

Jeremy 09.17.2009 03:16 AM

No, Gary starts up the drumbeat for a sec, then a moment later Malkmus starts playing the chords and sings it, and then for the chorus he starts to hum the melody line.

That's from what I remember, at least.

The new argument is: Which band become irrelevant faster after they broke up?

Jeremy 09.17.2009 03:19 AM

The answer is clearly the Smashing Pumpkins. At least good bands ripped Pavement off and continued to rip them off.

~Jeremy~

atsonicpark 09.17.2009 03:24 AM

Right. No one gave a fuck when Pumpkins broke up. Less people give a fuck now that they're back. Almost all their old fans hate them, etc...

There'll always be a place in my heart for Pavement. I mean they were my favorite band for about 3 months when I was 15 and I thought making out to my girlfriend while "Loretta's Scars" was playing was the best life would ever get. But... well...

Actually, yeah, now that I think about it, life has probably gotten worse since then. Pavement, you were the last bright light in my life. Don't let me down this time, fuckers.

Jeremy 09.17.2009 03:37 AM

Hahaha. I'm sure they won't. Pavement has never let us down (Sure, TT was a drop in quality, but still decent compared to most other albums), I'm really excited about this. I hope it's more than just a one off show...

PAVEMENT+COACHELLA=100000% RADNESS!!!!!

~Jeremy~

EDIT: Funny, Pavement became my favorite band a few months after I turned 15.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 09.17.2009 12:08 PM

Steve Malkmus pronounces creek like he's from Western PA

Yes!! Gangsters is classic. So is Give it a Day. That's a weird one bc it's not on any proper albums but released like a single.

Rob Instigator 09.17.2009 12:27 PM

Pavement, as my friend Sozavac tells me, put out their best songs on EP's and B sides. I used to disagree, but having aquired those b sides and EP's I am in full compliance.

I disagree on that one. I find a lot of their output on b-sides/ep's almost un-listenable at times. Sure they're b-sides, but damn, it seems like they threw anything on there. Gangsters, Give it a Day, Harness your Hopes, Sue Me Jack(rules), and the Echo cover is about all there was for me.

joe11121 09.17.2009 05:42 PM

I wanna catch one of their shows.

atsonicpark 09.17.2009 06:10 PM

Pavement's b-sides > most of their album tracks

Jeremy 09.18.2009 07:00 AM

Pavement have some great b-sides, but I wouldn't say it's better than their album stuff. Some b-sides I just can't picture being on any of their records.

Westie Can Drum should have been on Brighten, though. Killer live song.

SuperCreep 09.18.2009 09:16 AM

Just got two tickets for the Central Park show!

Waiting until September 21st of next year is going to be fuckin' TORCHA.

radarmaker 09.18.2009 11:19 AM

OK, I'll go & see them but can this please be the last reunion for the forseeable future? Maybe a moratorium until, say, 2015? And can a whole lot more bands please split up? Thanks.

SuperCreep 09.18.2009 11:29 AM

LET'S PREDICT THE NEXT REUNION!

I call Hüsker Dü.

Jeremy 09.18.2009 11:52 AM

I don't ever see that happening... Grant and Bob just hate each other too much.

Of course, people also thought J, Lou, and Murph could never reunite Dinosaur Jr, let alone do new albums.... But Grant and Bob just can't stand each other, I think they're the one band who could never do it. None of them even show interest in it.

~Jeremy~

SuperCreep 09.18.2009 12:24 PM

idk. With Bob doing all those Dü songs with No Age and Grant just getting active in music again...who knows?

Jeremy 09.18.2009 01:09 PM

I'm wondering when the Husker Du reissues/remasters come out. Bob's had the rights now for a couple years and we've heard nothing.

~Jeremy~

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 09.18.2009 01:32 PM

I could see Hüsker Dü happening

especially with all the Dü in that stupid movie Adventureland

Pavement planning new album release

November 5, 2009

Pavement guitarist Spiral Stairs has revealed that the band are planning to release a best of compilation featuring previously-unreleased radio sessions next year.

The guitarist, real name Scott Kannberg, told NME.COM that the album would be likely to feature outtakes as well as the band's best-known songs, and be released around the same time of their reunion gigs next year.

"There's talk of doing a best of, with some really cool outtakes on that," he explained. "The very first radio show that Pavement ever did has never been released. I don't think anyone's heard it, so we'll put that out there sometime."

Count Mecha 11.14.2009 01:18 PM

That headline had me excited for about five seconds. Then I actually read some of the article. Those outtakes might be interesting.

atsonicpark 11.14.2009 02:35 PM

Pavement recorded way too much music.

Jeremy 11.14.2009 07:58 PM

Says the guy who worships Captain Beefheart and The Fall. ;)

SonikJesus 03.02.2010 08:52 PM

I love Pavement, really. But this reunion thing just doesn't interest me. I hope they just do a tour. Seems kinda selfish but I just keep thinking they'll ruin themselves. They should have stayed broken up.

the ikara cult 03.02.2010 08:53 PM

im not going to accept a Pavement reunion until im happy and in love

the ikara cult 03.02.2010 08:57 PM

The crooked Rain outtake version of Grounded is the best bloody Pavement song ever
