I would have this shit from day 1.

atsonicpark 08.18.2009 03:52 PM

Really, the mars volta commits every musical crime a band can commit.

Whether it's cheesy vocal effects (sounding like the singer is drowning), overproduced shit (lead singer "singing" and while he's singing a choir of his voices going "Yeeeeeeeeeeah" pans from speaker to speak), endless boring guitar solos.. sorry, endless boring solos of every kind.. though, let's talk specifically about the guitar solos. This guy is such a shitty guitar player. Never have I heard a guitar solo he's done that has any sort of flow... none of them tell a story.. sometimes, he'll overdub 2 or 3 guitar solos on top of each other, all playing random ass notes, hoping to hit something good.

Etc.

pbradley 08.18.2009 04:01 PM

Also, pinch harmonics.

There was a time when it was pretty cool, but backwards guitar solos are fucking annoying to me now.

Rob Instigator 08.18.2009 04:08 PM

rhyming "it" with "it"

and Phish rule BTW

Trasher02 08.18.2009 05:07 PM

Not so much a 'musical' crime but nonetheless: overpriced videoclips.

atsonicpark 08.18.2009 05:15 PM

While I kinda agree with you, since most of the music videos I like have been simple and cheap (see any nearly Japanese rock band's music video), there have been some really amazing "overpriced" music videos of the years too.

Musical appreciation crime #1: trying to use 'hey guys, why don't we, like, be a bit reasonable?' as a criticism.

AKA DeadDiscoDildo is Neil from the Young Ones.

I am also you. You are also Hitler. I am a chair. You are a cup of coffee. a Hippy? bahhumbug. Who said anything about being reasonable. I hate just about all of the bands in this thread. I'm just saying they aren't committing musical crimes, they are just being what they are.

If all you snobby punk rockers were really punks you wouldn't believe in crime.

PITCH CORRECTION

If you cannot sing in key, you cannot sing.

EDIT: Quite fitting for my 1000th post on the "new" board...

Ha, ha, Funny. If I expressed that opinion here in Hippy-ville, I would be run out of town. I'm not kidding.

In Asheville, NC, one dare not speak against Phish, the Grateful Dead, folk and old-timey music, and any band with a fiddle in it.

Hootie and the Blowfish is a basic music crime. If anyone has read Goodbye 20th Century, David Browne talks about why they were sucessful. Pretyy much after Cobain died, mainstream music listeners gave up wanting to be agressive and just wanted to listen to feel-good bullshit during the mid to late 90s.

Not that SY doesn't make me feel good...

But don't worry...I still forgive you!!!!!!!!!!....cuz i know you have little mouths to feed and mortgages to pay...and it's so passe for a fan to actually be concerned about selling out and all.......

Plus Starbucks makes one mean skinny green tea latte...delicious!

...now if only i had been able to find this totally unforgivable music crime in any starbucks in a 5 mile radius (living in new york city, there were a ton of them).....

I would actually love to have a copy of "Hits are for Squares." Thurston and Lee have, on multiple interviews, said that its the most rare and obscure SY release ever. No copies were ever even given to the band to sell on their site, and neither of them had ever seen one or met anyone who had ever seen one.

Haha, I totally agree! I really don't care if it's a musical crime. It's there most obscure album to date!

pinkstation 08.19.2009 11:11 AM

On amazon it's going from $50 used and $80 new.
Shit.

Hate vampire weekend.
Hate M83.
Hate that they gave NYC ghosts and flowers a rating of 0.0.
Hate how kids run their lives with the decimal rating system.
Therefore, I hate...

I'll refer you to exemption #4b of all musical laws which states (and I quote) "Nothing applies to Lemmy. Are you going to tell him he's wrong? No? Well, shut up then".
