2 is great. It's the companion to ATL.

Fucking Pendulum Music. Holy hell, why?

But going by the second disc, I like it. Burdocks is one of my favorite SYR pieces.

I know. I HATE "Pendulum Music". There's so much good stuff on there, but that one is so hard to listen to.

toxic johnny 04.04.2009 06:36 PM

Ha ha my favourite track is We Are The Princesses...

I know I hsould probaby put it in for a second try but I just had a really hard time getting through it the 1st time.

Derek 04.04.2009 06:42 PM

But Ikue Mori is on it!

viewtiful_alan 04.04.2009 06:46 PM

Well by making that mistake she has made it highly unlikely I will seek out any of her other stuff anytime soon.. unless some of it is just fantastic or something : /

toxic johnny 04.04.2009 06:47 PM

I think it's really great... and it amuses me no end that it appears to be really unpopular. To these ears it's a really intriguing collision of sound. Every time that I listen to it I have a smile on my face.

viewtiful_alan 04.04.2009 06:51 PM

Meh to each their own I guess. I mean if it was really unique itd be one hting, but the only things they added to this sort of music are things we didnt' need... XD

jennthebenn 04.04.2009 06:54 PM

2...my favorite SY album is A Thousand Leaves, so I suppose that's rather a "no shit, bitch" pick for me.

5 is great. You either dig what Kim and her cohorts bring to the table or
not.

toxic johnny 04.04.2009 06:56 PM

I would urge you to listen to it again Mr Viewtiful... in fact I would urge you to listen to it again and again!.

Listening to this album made me appreciate Kim even more.

You know the no wave band DNA? Ikue Mori played drums for that band. She also does solo stuff that's more laptop electronica but still great music.

noisereductions 04.04.2009 08:24 PM

Yeah, Ikue Mori is a great drummer. No doubt. And DJ Olive is a great "illbient" turntablist (see We). SYR5 is a good album in my opinion. Just not great. There are some standouts though.

Easily 5. Easily.

Kosako 04.06.2009 08:10 AM

I should say the first ones. SYR 1, 2 & 3. I think the rest they don't record anything new, they just used old material, mixed!

Derek 04.06.2009 11:59 AM

Tonight I think I'll listen to all my SYRs in a row.

noisereductions 04.06.2009 12:05 PM

"What Do You Want (Kim)" scares me. The scream part. Makes me jump every time even though I know it's coming.

Haha, good luck with that. I should do the same... some cannabis and all the SYR in a row... sounds like a fucking great trip!

maybe I'm an old man, but I never understand these comments. Why is pot needed to enjoy Sonic Youth?

It is not needed. You don't need sugar on your oatmeal either. But some people prefer it that way.

Why is pot needed to enjoy anything? I don't get why it's so necessary to some. Not that I'm judging or anything because I have good friends who do it, it's just not my thing.

EVOLghost 04.09.2009 11:34 PM

What's the point in asking? if you're wondering why, refer to this
