This is probably sunn's best album since "flight of the behemoth"

viewtiful_alan 10.05.2008 08:42 PM

Just ordered it a few days ago in the package that came with the shirt.
Cant wait.

batreleaser 10.06.2008 08:55 AM

its funny how sunn o))) always has these high profile guests on thier records; atila, xasthur, merzbow, john wiese, oren ambarchi, etc... all these big names, but its almost impossible to notice them being there, its like the sound of sunn o))) is so powerful and overwhelming even the biggest personalites get absorbed into the dronnnnneeeeeee to the point where their individual talents dont mean shit, they are simply a puzzle piece in the doom.

batreleaser 10.06.2008 08:55 AM

"this post brought to you by the stoned mind of batreleaser"

Yeah I definitely hear ya (pardon the pun). Boris is the same way with their recent material. In the Boris/Sunn0))) album, it's easier to hear the two playing together, but both bands have guest 'stars' all the time. Michio Kurihara makes a difference, but I nearly consider him a part of Boris now. What songs did Xasthur do with 0)))?

batreleaser 10.07.2008 09:19 AM

xathur was on the song "come mirror" off of "angel coma", provided some sounds with john wiese.

his vocals were all over black one. trakcs 3, 5, 6, 7, all feature his screams.

atsonicpark 10.07.2008 09:21 PM

I found out that the mediafire link doesn't work for some peopel so try this:

chairman of the bored 10.07.2008 09:55 PM

After hearing Attila's contribution, I conceded my sunn embargo))) and ordered it...not directly from southern lord, of course.

Iain 10.18.2008 08:41 AM

Yeah, this is actually really good. Way better than Oracle. I was about to order it from the Southern Lord website until I realised they wanted more for postage than the actual record. So I just bought it from a shop. Its nice though.

man, ive been doing it for 8 years... 8 years rising at 5am, going home at 11.30 or noon...its not that bad, its actually quite good!!!

as for sunn o album... im questioing myself if i really need to hear another sunn o album....do i really need another one?????

thanks adam for the link!

chairman of the bored 10.18.2008 12:45 PM

It's definitely worth a listen. It's more pure drone than their last few releases it seems. They definitely evolve enough that I think they are always worth checking out. By the way, their show at Knitting Factory the other night was fucking brutal, in the best possible way.

Oh, and they were selling a ridiculous Quintuple picture disc of the Grimmrobe Demos with a bonus track. Limited edition of 500 or something.

atsonicpark 10.18.2008 12:51 PM

trust me pauly it's worth hearing.

batreleaser 10.18.2008 12:59 PM

still havn't listened to it. for some reason i havn't had much desire to listen to any sunn o))) lately.

PAULYBEE2656 10.19.2008 11:30 AM

adam... yes it is indeed worth hearing........... stunning.....

Derek 10.19.2008 11:47 AM

it rules...

acousticrock87 10.19.2008 01:31 PM

Aw, I was looking forward to saying, "It sounds like old Sunn O)))." But after reading through this thread, I actually want to hear it.

the link is working, THANKS!

blankhogs 10.22.2008 03:42 PM

hopefully this is better than oracle

Derek 10.22.2008 04:17 PM

I liked Oracle...

Inhuman 10.22.2008 05:42 PM

Oracle was okay, but I found it a short. I like long drone-age which provides more time to get deeply into it

atsonicpark 10.30.2008 06:23 AM

Too short? Which version of Oracle did you hear? I think there were two, right? The one I have had this collage of live recordings assembled by Oren Ambarchi that was like 40 some minutes if I remmeber correctly. Still wasn't a very good or noteworthy album.

I'd like to mention that Sunn ripped off Robe. for Domkirke.. they have a trombone player on this album! Haha.

Everyneurotic 11.12.2008 02:51 PM

i think the album was good but i haven't listened to it a lot.

---

i like the live portion of oracle, the one that wasn't issued in this side of the world.

Glice 05.19.2009 12:55 PM

A friend of mine burnt this for me (days before it was released, I might add). Once again, I had the distinct feeling that I'd like this band a lot more if I lived somewhere where I could play them at bowel-distressing volumes. As it is, continued meh.

Glice 05.19.2009 12:55 PM

I do not approve of burning pre-released albums, by the way, but I like the chap concerned. You cunts should buy it though.

Oh yeah, the band who has already probably sold out of their limited-to-5000 $100 glow-in-the-dark vinyl copies of the album? Of an album that's simply a chord resonating in E with a guy growling underneath, which they've released about 40 of (which have all sold out) ? Yeah, they're really hurting. I'm not going to get into the ethics or whatever, I'll just say.. it's for promotional purposes. For the 5 people on this board wondering, 'should I or shouldn't I buy the new Sunn?'

But if I removed the link and just say that it leaked, everyone already knows they can type in "sunn o))) monoliths and dimensions blogspot" into google or go into soulseek and get the album in 5 seconds... so, either way.

I've actually supported the band, buying releases from them and southern lord countless times. I feel absolutely no guilt downloading this album.

atsonicpark 05.19.2009 09:58 PM

In all seriousness though, I'll probably end up buying this one. This is their best album!

SuperCreep 05.19.2009 10:59 PM

Starting the third track now. This is definitely very expansive as far as Sunn O))) is concerned. Attila really needs to shut up, though.

atsonicpark 05.19.2009 11:04 PM

haha.

I blocked him out.

SuperCreep 05.19.2009 11:20 PM

I wish I could do the same. This album would be so much better without him. I'm eleven minutes into the fourth track (no Attila yet) and it's truly mesmerizing (the track, not the album really. haha.)

atsonicpark 05.19.2009 11:27 PM

I think, musically, this is by far their best album. His vocals are a bit... much... though, I agree.

SuperCreep 05.19.2009 11:41 PM

Oh yeah, definitely. They really got the right idea with this one. "Alice" is gorgeous at the end. Reminds me of "In a Silent Way/It's About That Time" surprisingly.

edit: Actually, it sounds like Alice Coltrane's stuff too. I wonder if it's some sort of reference?

I just ordered it, so I don't know what you're talking about.

The fact that their records sell out doesn't mean they are making loads of money, atsonicpark.
You put up the link like it's no big deal. Show some decency if you proclaim to love music so much.

In case you didn't know. The rules on this forum don't only apply to official SY releases.
Carry on.

atsonicpark 05.20.2009 03:07 AM

Haha, alright then. I removed the link. I don't want to get into a debate over the ethics of sharing an album for the 4 or 5 people who would even bother listening to it (who have probably already heard it without my help) on this board. So, instead, everyone, you get this:

Hey fellO)))w fO)))llO)))wers of the drO)))ne, I heard the wicked hot new joint by my favorite doom drone boy band, SUNNNNNNNNNNN. It's a really fucking good album to smoke a spliff to, probably their best musically. I'd reccomend listening to it yourself to see if you want to buy it, because MP3's just don't do the multi layered sound of this band justice. I think I'm gonna buy me a copy from the local independant record store next week! See ya there, dronesters!

Tokolosh 05.20.2009 03:12 AM

I think you're underestimating how many of us have already ordered it...
No hard feelings.

atsonicpark 05.20.2009 03:15 AM

I don't care how many have ordered it. Me posting a link isn't me going "HEY! DOWNLOAD THE ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T BUY IT!!! DOWNLOAD IT!!!!!!!!" I don't care what people do on the internet or what they do with their money. I just figured I'd say, look.. the album's out there, to those who care.. here's a link I found on a blog that'll probably expire soon anyway...

Anyway, I've had my music shared by people on other boards, and I don't really care. Albums I've spent years on. Makes no difference to me. I definitely have more of a reason to get upset over people sharing my music than Sunn would -- considering, again, they're making a living off of releasing e chords resonating, putting it out in 500 different overpriced limited-edition packages, and having art exhibits of black rooms that people can walk into and hear the drooooooone. They're a huge band, my lil' link isn't going to effect them either way. Bands make most of their money from touring, anyway, and... ah, I said I wasn't going to get into ethics.

Better answer: I like Sunn, my link wasn't meant to hurt them, it was meant to share with friends. This board is filled with my friends. But those friends are smart enough to go find it themselves if they want it. The end.

_slavo_ 05.20.2009 03:17 AM

I heard the new one sucks pretty bad.

But then again, I've never actually heard a SunnO))) album, so I don't even know how they sound.

atsonicpark 05.20.2009 03:19 AM

You'd probably like sunn... since you're the drone king, slavo.

And you were trying to promote them by posting that link?
Everybody knows that when it comes to Sunn O)) limited releases, you'll loose if you snooze.
Get over it.
