i wrote this in a rush and i dont think in english, sometimes i'll use unusual expressions.
i was asking for british bands that are relevant (adj. relevant, important, significant, consequential, prominent) to yourself. |
The only one that I seriously care that much is Coil. There are other great ones, of course, but Coil are the only important British band for me.
|
in my world the shadow ring are the highest ranking british band

If you did your indie thang then I'd reccomend anything from the british branch of Domino, particularly Clinic and The Archie Bronson Outfit, I beleive they're still pretty unknown across the pond, and...... here, too.
However, if seminal UK 80s post-punk is more to your tastes, of course Public Image Ltd (check out Jah Wobble's solo stuff aswell) and the Jesus and Mary Chain, though I imagine you already know them. Early 90s shoegaze: Chapterhouse, Ride, Slowdive, Bleach and yes, of course My Bloody Valentine. Debbie Googe of MBV, everybodies favourite lesbian cab driver, had a band called Snowpony, worth a try. Keeping with the experimental theme, but in electronics, you might enjoy early ectro pioneers Cabaret Voltaire and the first embodiment of the Human League. To top it all off, Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd and solo work, and the mighty mighty Primal Scream. ...some food for thought there |
Oh I forgot the best of UK Hip Hop, Roots Manuva, Dizzee Rascal, Massive Attack, Tricky, Aim, Nightmares on Wax to name a few. Not sure how many folks listen to hip hop here, but it's Sonic Youth approved, so wahey!

Bloody hell, another person from Surrey!

Goddamit, I've never met another Sonic Youth fan in my life, why won't you bastards crawl out the woodwork now and then?!;) |
You probably saw me and though I was more likely to like Genesis. (That's a reference to my age, by the way, not a confession that I look like a hippy)
|
Don't get fooled by the senior board member, he DOES look like a hippy after all ;)

Dude, I fucking love Genesis. Peter Gabriel is god to me. and I'm 18! |
I was about to make a bible-related joke but now _slavo_'s post got in the way... welcome on the board, This Is Not Here.
|
Yeah, seconded. Welcome dude. There's never enough quality posters from Surrey.
|
Quote:
Quality posters eh? you'll have to explain what you mean there. |
Quote:
Was that an insult? I have a feeling it was. Grrrrrrr... |
Quote:
No no no nono no, you know I'm not a native speaker. what I meant is that one quality poster from Surrey on the board is fine but not enough *feeling embarassed now* |
You can't be that embarrassed, you didn't use a smiley.
|
:o ah
|
Surrey dude, did you see Thurston at The Scala before christmas?
|
|
Hey they're great photos, nice to relive a very awesome night. You were a couple of feet away from me by the look of it. 2 questions: about this forum, how the hell do I post a thread? and what did you think of Heather Leigh Murray?!
|
Okay:
To post a thread, choose which section you want to put it in (Sonic Gossip, Sonic Sharing, etc, etc), go into that section, click "Click To Start New Thread" at the top of the index for that section, and then it's much like doing a normal post. Make sure you're happy with the thread title before you post, 'cos you can't edit that. Heather Leigh Murray was fun to watch, especially laughing to myself at the indie girls with their fingers in their ears, and I'd go and see her again, but I wouldn't listen to it at home. Gotta go now, work should've finished 40 minutes ago. See you around. |
has a recording of this night still not surfaced then? :( thurston was excellent on this night
|
Radiohead blah blah blah! I know they're good and all but come on...
|
Radiohead are the most popular band that aren't overrated IMO.
|
I really think the last album is though.
