Really? It's Russia's most famous beer. In Ottawa there's a Russian Art bar, and it's my favorite. Awesome people there, and everyone drinks Baltika. You should try it if you find a specialty spot that has it!

Whenever I make this, I hardly have enough for myself. My homebrew recipe makes two cases, but all my friends like it so much I end up giving away almost all of it.

You wouldn't think oyster was a good ingredient for a stout, would you? Same with chocolate. Unfortunately, there's a few chocolate stouts doing the rounds, and they're of pretty changeable quality. I hope it doesn't go overseas, but if anyone ever sees a 'novelty' green beer, please remember that 'novelty', in this instance, is in fact a synonym for 'shit'. I can't remember who brewed it, but you'll spot it a mile off. Good talking point, but that's another story...

Rob Instigator 10.25.2007 12:02 PM

Young's Double Chocolate Stout is fucking delicious

mangajunky 10.25.2007 12:10 PM

I drink Root Beer too! Here's to New Jersey!
I especially like that is says "Best Head" on either side of the label.
Boylan's is my go to. Pure Cane Sugar rocks!

Bombardier! That's your kiddie mind. But yes, you're right.

FruitLoop 10.25.2007 04:00 PM

With the days getting colder I like to drink one of these in the evening...

As for root beers, this is the only brand I trust, although they tend to explode when you open them(!):

Norma J 10.25.2007 07:55 PM

I don't enjoy a beer as much these days. I used to mix it up alot and drink everything - beer, red wine, vodka, whiskey. Then I moved towards just beer and red wine. Now I tend to just drink wine (preferrably white wine these days) and whiskey.

But I'll still indulge in a beer, now and then.

mangajunky 12.11.2007 04:32 PM

Allright - I'm looking for a brand of Chocolate stout that I had a couple of weeks ago - I think it was in a yellow can. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

✌➬ 12.11.2007 04:34 PM

!@#$%! 12.11.2007 04:36 PM

yellow can? no, sorry.

i've stopped drinking beer for a while. it's all cocktails & hard liquor for me until at least the solstice. this fucking darkness sucks.

ok, i lied-- i'm drinking wine too. i just haven't picked a winter beer yet.

Rob Instigator 12.11.2007 04:40 PM

I like SNAKEBITES

Guiness stout on top of apple cider or pear cider

strictlycommercial 12.11.2007 05:04 PM

I think I like Baltika 9 mainly because of the bottle. Nice, manly, Arctic circle port feel off it. Surprisingly light for 8% too.

And yes, Guiness tastes wierd outside of Ireland.

That's one of those quebec beers isn't it? They sell it everywhere here in quebec, but I dislike it myself. But good call on the Spruce beer, it's amazing.

Regarding Baltika, that's all I've been drinking lately. But Baltika 9? Is that the same with a different alcohol content? Theres a single bar that sells it in Ottawa, so I go there all the time.

i've racked my brains thinking of yellow cans and i could only think of boddingtons -- but that's not a chocolate stout --

technically it's a bitter

maybe you've been had by the synesthesia?

young's (i'm guessing the most popular chocolate stout) is purple/orange
