yeah, gg is fucking terrible. I saw some DVD of his where he plays about 30 seconds of a song, hits himself with a bottle, smears shit on himself, and walks around New York for an hour with random people screaming "GG!!!!!!!!!!!" It was quite possibly the most boring DVD I've ever seen.

me. 09.13.2007 03:30 PM

Been listening to the compilation of The Eat released recently on Alternative Tentacles,(listen to the free Batcast @ the AT site-I've been humming those songs since i heard em).Angry punk= er um ..Chaotic Dischord,Anti-Nowhere League? i dunno probably the wrong subgenre......

dirk diggler 09.13.2007 05:10 PM

Yeah, but GG did once throw shit on Gerard Cosloy so he can't be all bad.

atari 2600 09.13.2007 05:18 PM

How 'bout the righteous anger of Sex Pistols?
...featuring the best music and lyrics to be found in the entire genre! ...three pages and not a single mention?!

Oh, it's over yr synchophantic head?
Too bad.

Oh, they are not lame enough or name-droppy enuff?
Too bad.:(

Everyneurotic 09.14.2007 10:27 AM

the pistols were more funny than angry.

Norma J 09.14.2007 10:54 PM

The Sex Pistols were manufactured shit, more about image than anything. Definitely not a band I'd suggest to any worthwhile fan of punk music.

Who gives a fuck about a stupid that apparently doesn't involve much music dvd when his music is so fucking awesome? So what if the guy was a disgusting cunt, he still wrote rad music.

Everyneurotic 09.14.2007 11:05 PM

speaking of stretching the boundaries of punk for these recomendations.

if you like some angry yet funny in a very extremely offensive but philosophical way...make that violentely philosophical stuff, then listen to anal cunt.

k-krack 09.15.2007 12:18 AM

hahahaha
by philosophical, do you mean like... misanthropical?

Everyneurotic 09.15.2007 12:20 AM

nah...well, yeah, misanthropy is a big part of it, but i've come to the conclusion that seth putnam (and, therefore, anal cunt) is not an asshole, but a philosophical question.

i should write that shit down.

John never liked Malcolm. Malcolm always made sure that John never had enough money to leave. John left anyway because he'd rather die in a gutter than suffer another day with Malcolm.
John Lydon's lyrics are more poetic, philosophical, punk rock, and intelligently angry than any of the artists mentioned in this thread.

So, if you want to point a finger at Sex Pistols and carry on with some insufferable la-di-da groupthink notion they are a big fashion-plate scam who expected people to follow them because they manufactured some sort of brand of cool rebellion, then you're lost. You're like Malcolm. No wonder you fall for the idiot contrivances of image and the bullshit derivative music (disguised as something new) and lyrics (goonish half-wit gibberish) of most of the artists you all mention.

atari 2600 09.15.2007 09:56 AM

You really can't see the forest for the trees.

Oh well, your loss.

Norma J 09.15.2007 05:37 PM

The Sex Pistols got Sid purely for his looks. He couldn't even play so they had a guy behind the stack playing bass while Sid pretended to be punk rock on stage. They were also put together with a 'man with a plan'.

Fucking lame!

And I agree, Sway can't see the forest for the trees. He's still sitting here, scratching his head, wondering what you meant by that comment. "Trees? Forest? Huh?".

Oh, AND, don't try and pretend, Atari, that you've heard most of the bands in this thread to call them "bullshit derivative music".

Norma J 09.15.2007 06:57 PM

Yeah, they had some alright stuff. But why listen to the Pistols when there's the Saints? Like, really.

LifeDistortion 09.15.2007 07:39 PM

Bad Brains

Cantankerous 09.15.2007 09:41 PM

actually sid and john weren't that great of friends. john would have you believe otherwise, however.

anyway the pistols were shit compared to pil. as far as any "punk" coming out of england in the late 70s they were one of the best but what was happening in new york was so much more interesting and it didn't become a trend to dye your hair orange and rip your shirt on purpose, and television and patti smith weren't doing that. the dead boys and the voidoids were a bit more like the bands from england which is probably because the bands from england copied them. richard hell always annoyed me a little anyway but i do like the voidoids.
before i start to rant big time, quit being contrived and listening to what other people tell you. form your own opinions and listen to WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT.

atsonicpark 09.16.2007 12:03 PM

i actually just bought the filth and the fury for 16 cents in a brand new sealed vhs tape. "OH NO IT'S NOT DVD YOU CAN'T WATCH IT .........................."

sex pistols were fucking funny and ugly.

The conclusions you draw from your rudimentary knowledge are not the least bit insightful or impressive.

Unlike yourself, I'm not pretentious. And sorry, but I don't care to prolong this exchange by listing all the crap bands that have been mentioned in this thread and mocking them appropriately to prove myself.

forkimified 09.16.2007 12:37 PM

Charles Bronson.

Everyneurotic 09.16.2007 11:41 PM

the filth and the fury is an excellent film (i have it on vhs too, adam), after watching it, i can't really think someone can still think they were a real band.

they showed sid & nancy last night, caught the last of it, both were pathetic idiots...got to see courtney back when she had a round face though.

ohh, i forgot:

fuck on the beach
7 minutes of nausea
fear of god
stillborn christians
modern life is war

Cantankerous 09.17.2007 12:38 AM

the sex pistols did more bad than good
listen to all the bands they influenced

without maclaren the pistols would have just been three dudes trying to get on the dole and begging for gigs.
he made their image, he made their "political stance" and he added dipshit sid vicious for pure fashion and not because he could play, which he never could.

lydon has proved witout a doubt that the only reason the pistols were worth anything was because of HIM

it also became very fucking hip to ignore the RAMONES when every single punk band after them including the pistols owe their existance to them.

Rob Instigator 09.18.2007 09:31 AM

they should listen to robert johnson! but who said to call it quits?
all i said it pay respect to where it is due.

atari 2600 09.18.2007 09:35 AM

I just don't consider Ramones all that angry.

Rob Instigator 09.18.2007 09:55 AM

it has to be in context atari. for 1970, the ramones were very fast, very aggressive. they were angry dudes, but they were in a band to have fun, you know? I mean, shit, half of them were sucking dick to make extra money for the first year of their band's existance!

Rob Instigator 09.18.2007 01:33 PM

Old Old texas blues

Blind Lemon Jefferson

not that old texas blues

Lightnin Hopkins
T-Bone Walker
Leadbelly

More recent than those

Freddy King
Albert Collins

Albert Collins was bad fucking ass. he died in 1993. he would jump off stage and play his solos on his telecaster while walking around mingling with the audience. a cool story about playing at Antone's, "involved Albert leaving the building, still plugged in and playing. A few minutes later when he was back on stage, a pizza guy came in and gave him the pizza he had just ordered when he left the building - he had gone to the take away opposite and ordered while he was still playing. "

guitar guitar guitar
Here is Albert Collins playing I AIN'T DRUNK at Buddy Guy's LEGENDS Club
