jico. 05.16.2007 07:18 AM

does he look gay without the leather thing? i dunno, maybe you're right.

sarramkrop 05.16.2007 07:19 AM

That's a leather guy, not a bear.

jico. 05.16.2007 07:20 AM

i searched bear man. what am i supposed to google?

MellySingsDoom 05.16.2007 07:21 AM

Does a bear shit in the woods, or does he use a toilet like everyone else?

sarramkrop 05.16.2007 07:21 AM

bear

This is the place that i'm talking about. Does it not look like a bear bar from outside?

MellySingsDoom 05.16.2007 07:23 AM

I know that place well. Bear night is Fridays, otherwise it's just yer neighbourhood friendly boozer. That's full of gays.

Edit: the music is stereotypically "gay"

When was the last time that you've been there, then? First of all that is not only a bear bar (course, you get chasers in there too ) but it is well known as one. Second, because of that great jukebox that they have there, it means that people freely put on whatever music they want, rather than just the sacred trilogy of Minogue/Maradona/ Williams.:)

MellySingsDoom 05.16.2007 07:41 AM

Last time? About a month ago, I recall. Twas a Monday nite. You're right about the jukebox, I guess on that night the punters choosing the choons just stuck to the "hits", as it were.

Have you been the the Retro near Charing Cross? I like that place a lot, but it's a bugger (ho ho) to get a seat sometimes. :)

Yes, quite a few times. Wendy, the landlady, is a really nice woman. Sitting down is always a problem there. Not too keen on a lot of the music that they play there, too stuck in the 80's. Do you remember the rocktronica nights that they used to have in there?

More bear action.

BearHug is a social group for gay men whose primary interest is Bears. No, not the furry cute type you see in the zoo, but the hairy homosexual kind - anyone who is a Bear or a Bear admirer is welcome to join the club (sorry, no bearded ladies!). We are based in London, England and have members mainly from around London, but also from the whole of the United Kingdom, across Europe and the U.S.A.

Want to join? Then go to the 'How To Join BearHug' page for full details or go straight to the Membership Application Form. BearHug meets every Friday evening from 9 pm in the upstairs bar of The Kings Arms

Running since March 2004, Come To Daddy is a weekly Wednesday nighter at King's Cross' infamous gay club Central Station. The night is aimed at all bears, daddies, big boys, chubs and chasers.
Cruise, booze and fall about to retro floor-fillers. Classic 70s and 80s dance, pop and nrg with contemporary booty shakers thrown into the mix. We have regular guest DJs, who all bring their own particular flavour to the night. Check the Diary section for more details.
Enjoy the filthy fur films or explore the maze and darker corners of the club.
Following the success of the London night, we have also expanded to host monthly club events in Bristol. After a successful residency at Just Winns, we're now guesting monthly at The Hatchet Inn on Frogmore Street - click the Bristol link for more details.

It started at West Central in China Town till they closed it down to make space for a straight bar, then it moved to the retro bar because a lot of the crowd were regulars there and mates with Wendy. After it moved there, it only lasted for a few months. I know it because an ex housemate was this girl who was friends with these two guys who DJed there regualrly and would stay at our house often. I have a compilation cdr of what they used to play there (Anal Cunt, Haddaway, Black Flag, Heart etc etc).

Greg Olsen's Rap Lyrics Cause a Stir in Chicago

Posted May 1st 2007 5:08PM by Michael David Smith

is the front page of today's Chicago Sun-Times. The accompanying column by Carol Slezak expresses outrage that the Bears' first-round draft pick was a member of a rap group during his freshman year in college, and that the group had some naughty lyrics:
I lost count of the number of times I heard the word "ho," or a certain b-word or a certain f-word. And the lewd sexual acts that are described? Well, let's just say they're not appropriate for this newspaper. But apparently the Bears don't have much of a problem with them. The fact that the team's top draft pick, Greg Olsen, raps in the song doesn't bother the Bears a bit.

I'm not sure what Slezak wants the Bears to do here. Are they really supposed to avoid drafting any player who might have used some foul language in the past? Olsen's rapping isn't my personal choice of music (I've been listening to a lot of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash lately) but forgive me if I can't get too worked up about some stupid rap song that some teenagers wrote in college.

Dear Camille:
I've searched through your archives for guidance and wisdom. Many, many thanks. However, I've found no reference to "Bears," those big, fat, hairy gay men who meet in their own bars, have their own porn mags and even star in their own porn videos. A decade ago, the lean, smooth, muscular body was the gay ideal of manly perfection. Now it's acceptable (and sometimes more desirable) to be fat and hairy in the body-conscious gay world. What do you think about that?
Yours most humbly,
Bearmuffin

Dear Bearmuffin,
You raise a fascinating question. What is the subliminal symbolism of sexual attraction? Any gender theory worth its salt would deal head-on with these issues instead of dallying in the choking thicket of poststructuralism.
Depilation has become highly fashionable in the gay male world, as shown by the many ads in the gay press for total body waxing and tweezing. Pinpoint shaving of the genital and anal areas has become a gay beauty profession unto itself. Not since Greek athletes scraped their oiled, sandy bodies with the strigil (see Lysippus' fourth-century B.C. statue, "Apoxyomenos") have men had such a fetish for girl-smooth skin. The current fad has come from competitive bodybuilding, where depilation clarifies the outline of well-cut muscles.
In their defiant hirsutism, gay bears are more virile than the generic bubble-butt junior stud, since body hair is stimulated by testosterone. But the bears' fatness resembles not the warlike Viking mass of a Hell's Angel but the capacious bosom of the primal earth mother. The gay bear is simultaneously animalistic and nurturing, a romp in the wild followed by nap time on a comfy cushion. The Greek-style pretty ephebe is a cold visual icon, tauntingly remote and ultimately ungraspable. The bear, however, offers warm, soothing regression to what Freud calls the polymorphous perverse, the whole-body tactility of early childhood. My working theory is that the gay bear as a sexual persona is a mythic father-mother, a parental fusion like the androgynous Egyptian river god Hapi or the Roman Father Tiber, bearded and jovially recumbent amid his swarm of rollicking cherubs.

jico. 05.16.2007 01:44 PM

and another question, is there a bear woman club too? yaikes.

Rob Instigator 05.16.2007 02:39 PM

It was my understanding that Bears are not just large men, but burly and hirsute.

There is a convenience store chain here in Houston called Hollywood Food Store and the one in the gay area of town stocks massive amopunts of lube and sex toys and porn porbn porn and all right by the register all out in the opne. I was looking at the covers of the mags and one was called "Country bears" and the tagline for the cover bear was "Look who we found at the county fair?"

hilarious. this is from bearcenter.com

How many compilations are there out of all the millions of compilations made by millions of music fans that feature both Anal Cunt AND Haddaway? Not many I'd be willing to wager.

MellySingsDoom 05.16.2007 05:51 PM

There's just one, I'm sure, and that's owned by sarramkrop. Will he sell it on Ebay, I wonder?

sarramkrop 05.16.2007 06:00 PM

The same cd gets worse or better, depending on how you see it. When i find it, i'll post the whole tracklist. It's a joy to behold.

MellySingsDoom 05.16.2007 06:01 PM

Hurrah! Can't wait to hear it.

SynthethicalY 05.16.2007 06:13 PM

I went out with a bear once. But he had this womanly voice, it annoyed me.

Glice 05.17.2007 12:17 PM

Twinks, Silver foxes and those who chase silver foxes (whose name escapes me) have been ommited thus far.

Also, there's the two categories of Gate and Stray (used a lot less these days). The former is a gay man who 'acts' straight and the latter a straight man acting gay. .

Toilet & Bowels 05.17.2007 01:03 PM
