sonicl 08.21.2007 06:31 AM

Nice line-up. It's a shame it's in a field with ten of thousands of other people, not a club with a few hundred.

0jnolan 08.21.2007 07:04 AM

I hear they're playing 7PM on the Main Stage, before Iggy.

PAULYBEE2656 08.22.2007 02:34 PM

7pm sounds early but hey. ive a drive home in front of me... sy + iggy = wanna be yr dog with kim vocals...... mike watt being the common denominator.... just a thought!

PAULYBEE2656 08.22.2007 02:35 PM

oh but there is.....Warlords of Pez!!!!!!!!!!!!!

0jnolan 08.23.2007 10:57 AM

I done the ol' pack up and drive home Sunday night thing last year, but being absolutely fucking shattered, barely able to stand during the YYYs, I reckon the Youth will require a bit of an alcoholic buzz to keep me going, and in a decent mood; so I might have to bare the traffic on Monday morning. A bus would be ideal but I haven't come across any.

_slavo_ 08.23.2007 11:18 AM

now that's what I call a lineup.

PAULYBEE2656 08.25.2007 03:44 PM

what part of wexford are u from mr nolan?
im sure there is a bus going from wexford town, i can check it out for you tomorrow.....

0jnolan 08.27.2007 07:10 AM

The town, Pauly. I've already checked White's and Fleetline, nothing's doing. Surprising, I know. I'll drive, fuck it.
They had a thing in the News of the World yesterday about breathalyzers in the car-park, and no time limit on leaving the site come Monday. Pretty ingenious; not that I'm a piss-head but nice to know if you're over the limit so as to avoid hassle with the piglets.

PAULYBEE2656 08.28.2007 06:21 AM

yeah. im gonna have a very sober sunday unfortunatley. you are from the town, do i know you then i d say we have come in contact before... i live in murrintown but work as a postman around town. the only postman with long hair in the town and the only postman that blares magik markers and lightning bolt from the van on regular days!

man id offer a lift except my car is full at the moment but ill get back to you if anything changes.

do you know the guys from chaplin by any chance, i do work for them......

0jnolan 08.28.2007 09:09 AM

Can't say that I do, but I've probably seen them around somewhere. I might recognize you. Seem to recall a long-haired posty delivering me a couple of a DVDs a while back, though I don't remember any Lightning Bolt ;)

Did you ever happen to drop a mix-CD into Finnegan's, back in the day? I remember a friend, who worked there, showing one to me once, saying a postman had left it in. It had Pavement and Explosions in the Sky on it and I remember thinking, This guy has a bit of taste.

PAULYBEE2656 08.28.2007 10:32 AM

ha! yeah, that was me! paul wanted some musak dj for thursday nites in there so i dropped one into him. it didnt work out cuz im up at quarter to 5 every weekday morning for work. funny, i went in there one afternoon with my folks for lunch and there it was playing! ian doyle from chaplin used to run the songclub in there on tuesdays, all a bit to singer songwritery for me tho.....

ha! classic, same small town and meeting via an internet forum based in new york. world shrinkage!!!!!!!!!

PAULYBEE2656 08.28.2007 10:49 AM

if i remember correctly the cd had an xray image of a fish on the cover.

i wonder where it is now? paul finnegans car? bin? box of dontwantanymore?

0jnolan 08.28.2007 12:01 PM

Yeh, I went to that songwriter thing now and then, fucking interminable.

I'm guessing it ended up in the skip with the rest of the place... Should've played it more ;)

And a bit odd, yeh, but 'tis the wonder of the internet; and Sonic Youth, I guess.

Have you seen them before?

PAULYBEE2656 08.29.2007 05:15 AM

dalymount 93 and marlay park 2005. i met steve there and got my syr4 signed. this weekends aim is to get thursts, kims and lees scribbles on it to! im workin n that!

purplebumblebee 08.29.2007 06:05 AM

I wias at dalymount park too, what a scorcher of a day that was!

0jnolan 08.29.2007 06:27 AM

Cool. In 93 I was six, think I was only getting into Merzbow then ;) Couldn't bring myself to go in 05, Chemical Brothers and that. So first time for myself.

How are you planning to meet them? If you do, tell them to sort out a gig at Vicar Street or something, for fuck sake!

PAULYBEE2656 09.03.2007 03:27 AM

thanks to everone who put up with my opinionated rantings before sy! i was the guy with curly hair and the thurston atp shirt! yet again, pre sy gigs are a great place to meet new cool people and be as anally retentive about music as you can possibly be..........

if my "china girl" is on here..................... its still an awful song!!!

purple bumble bee, there were many confusion shirts but are you the melvins fan/ pearl jam hater we were talking too?

0jnolan 09.03.2007 05:53 AM

I sort of knew it would be good when Thurston said the word "jamarooni."

fishmonkey 09.03.2007 07:19 AM

i was the dude crowd surfing in the red sonic youth nurse t-shirt.

oh the fun times.

PAULYBEE2656 09.03.2007 08:59 AM

ha! kick me in the head will ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mikeyboy 09.03.2007 01:35 PM

Silver Rocket and 'Cross The Breeze. It was great to finally hear those songs live, Daydream Nation being my favourite lp from the Youth.

PAULYBEE2656 09.03.2007 03:18 PM

ending with silver rocket told me that it was time to go home. the perfect ending to a near-perfect festival

PAULYBEE2656 09.03.2007 03:19 PM

oh yeah, thanks to whoever donated 2 marlboro lights to us just before sy played, very appreciative!!!!!!!!

EvdWee 09.03.2007 03:43 PM

thank god they were light :P

greenlight 09.03.2007 06:01 PM

glad you have enjoyed.
was sound good?

links, pictures?

I just saw in news, somebody died at EP.

mikeyboy 09.04.2007 03:15 AM

Yeah, a 23 year old guy collapsed and died at the Chemical Brothers set, sad news.

The sound wasn't bad but I'm not a big fan of main stages. I wouldn't exactly say that Sonic Youth were noisy or anything. A bit more volume would have been nice.

PAULYBEE2656 09.04.2007 06:23 AM

the lack of volume was very dissapointing especially after seeing the fall and !!! who were fucking loud out. sy should have been in the electric arena tent, that would have made a great gig into an astonishing one!

rich, i forgot to bring my camera, i would have got some great shots. the girl beside me (my china girl) got some quality photos but i dont think she is a memebr here, tho she seemed hardcore enough!

mikeyboy 09.04.2007 06:48 AM

Yeah, The Fall were great. That's my fourth time seeing them and it was probably the best. The drums and the bass were really loud but crisp. (if you don't include MES' amp fiddling and microphone experimentation):p

PAULYBEE2656 09.04.2007 02:34 PM

marks amp fiddling is hilarious. did you notice the only equipment he didnt fiddle with in a destructive way was elenas, the missus!!! she was telling him what to do!!!! christ she is gorgeous in the flesh as well!
