dude fucking melvins show at stubbs 3-15 invite only from viceland.com!!!
|
last year he played at some presbyterian church pretty close to 6th street.
i really wish they would release the lineup for this year. my band applied and we haven't heard back yet, but it seems like they've only confirmed the "big names". |

wow. i don't know most of those bands. i've been a bit out of the loop what with moving to the sticks and what not. so... who would you recommend besides the wonderful charalambides/blonde redhead/magik markers/ monotract... and why? and hm when i get my soulsuck going, will you be able to hook me up w/ some samples?? :o |
word on the street is that Boris are playing sxsw as well.

Almost every year there is just enough good stuff to make it worth the trip. Of course I live just down the street from this shit so you may think differently. So far the list is terribly unexciting, but it almost always gets better as the time draws nigh. Last year there was an excellent Table of Elements showcase featuring Tony Conrad and Rhys Chatham to which T. Moore lended his talents. That alone was worth it. |

oh. damn. well so how the hell do you buy tickets for this? i am quite irritated with the lack of fortune i've had so far looking for the little cardboard things. |
the good thing about sxsw is you don't need to buy tickets!
you can either buy, like, 5 billion dollar passes that get you into any official sxsw show, or you can just pay at the door to which ever shows you want to go to. i highly recommend the latter method, unless you're absolutely in love with every band playing. there also tend to be a lot of free shows, so i wouldn't worry about tickets at all. |
in case you're curious, this is how you get "the badge": http://2007.sxsw.com/register_to_attend/
$550 for a music badge if you buy right now. ridiculous |
i would never travel from out of town for this unless there were bands that you definitely wanted to see or it was just convenient for you to come here and stay with friends anyways. i have lived here for ten years and the only wrist band i ever had was the year there were a bunch of fakes and i still didnt use it hardly at all because sxsw kinda sucks. it is an industry event, not a fan event. flat stock poster convention always delivers the goods every single year though. holy mountain and el topo are playing at alamo drafthouse too.

oh fuck, $550 can kiss my ass pffffftttt!!! fuck that shit man. fuckit. thanks for the news. i will completely write this off my thoughts. what a fucking joke. the pervasiveness of corporate logos should have been a warking, magik markers or not. i'll spend $550 on a ticket to europe maybe but not on a trip to a red fucking state. austin or no austin. red state. fuck that shit. see, it's a fucking trade show. |
no no no! if you can get someone in austin to get you one, there are wristbands that go for $130-150 (it varies from year to year). those are good enough because they let you get into shows without paying (but you still have to wait in line to get in, unlike the badges).

Yeah, SXSW is all that you describe and more.
While I think our showcase will be a great night I would never try to convince someone it was worth 500 bux! Thurston will be playing about 5 times while we're down there in various configurations and forms. If you don't want to drop the dime on the fest, he'll also be doing Bark Haze at the Arthur Party on Friday afternoon and doing a lower key song type thing on Saturday at an instore at END OF AN EAR which is a great store. Ecstatic Peace Showcase: A 2 stage single night event at THE MOHAWK. Thurston Moore Instrumental GoWN Charalambides Tall Firs MV+EE Monotract Black Helicopter Pagoda Magik Markers Thurston Moore Songz plus special guest Sunburned |
