inhuman- i think, also, stuff like "perfect moments in rock" or whatever where we all take turns writing little bits about parts of songs we think are pefect and etc. would be pretty cool.

Everyneurotic 09.20.2006 10:24 PM

weekly albums and singles and we'll keep a monthly score from there, that's what me thinks.

also, a few regular columns wouldn't hurt.

I have some reviews ready. If you don't want to post your e-mail in here send me one at hayden_asche@hotmail.com.

what about a video section with youtube links or links to official artist pages with good videos to watch?i know a column like that could go on forever, but if you select the links wisely (quality/rariry over quantity)it can give satisfactions.

Yeah. I find Verdana or Helvetica the best fonts, for websites.

Everything should be monthly, because people are slow.

I was thinking of that myself as well. Later on what I was planning to do is get actual copyrights for videos, and that way we can stream videos, but nobody's going to give rights unless the site gets a little bit more popular. But for sure, I'll add a videos section and hope for the best!

The perfect moments in rock idea is also an attention grabber, but keep in mind we're not only doing rock music :p. I'm pretty much up to any additions to the website, as long as there's people to run them! We all have to participate together and have tight deadlines, and it's going to be hard since I'm in college full time and don't have too much time to code it.

In regards to the tops, I think I'm aiming towards what everyneurotic said. As long as we all vote, we shouldn't have too much hassle. The domain I'm buying contains 2500 email addresses, so you'll each get your own, and what I was thinking is having a form so users can submit their favorite top songs and albums as well, and send it to top10@oursitename.com.

Thanks to the people giving name reccomendations, we should get some more and then throw a poll deciding on which one suits the page the most.

Thanks,
Rob

of course, it would best moments in music, not just rocks.

we could also post impromptu top ten list by each of us contributors, besides the general one.

hey, there's an idea! Sounds good! I'll make a page for it. I'm finalizing the layout tonight, and starting to script it. If anyone's willing to help me script, just give me a holla!

nicfit 09.21.2006 11:54 AM

HaydenAsche 09.22.2006 12:08 AM

PWN. I have the original pressing of Psychic.

Is Global Clone readily available or is it super-limited edition shit?

golden child 09.22.2006 12:13 AM

nope, edition of 1000
available from the label at http://www.iheartnoise.com/

or available from me at http://www.spacelessjam.com/

its acually a compilation of some of their super limited tapes, i only have one of the 5 that are on it so its still mostly new to me. pretty bitchin though.

i started writing my review earlier but i am not quite done, i have a feeling this one is gonna be on the longer side.

HaydenAsche 09.22.2006 12:17 AM

cool man

& death to <font> tags!!

if you need some help with the stylesheets or checking your code let me know via pm. i can't put a whole lot of time into this but i'd be happy to give you a hand every now & then.

alright thanks! Especially since I'm new to stylesheets since I learned HTML before the fancy XHTML+CSS came in. I just started learning CSS yesterday in class, so I'll PM you the username and password when I post the BETA version of the site on angelfire so people can try it, then switch it to a real site as soon as I get my credit card. That way you can review the content on it. Thanks very much!

Now, we really need a name. We have a few suggestions on the first page I believe, so take a look at those and see what you think.
I was thinking of something like "Avante-Cure".

!@#$%! 09.22.2006 05:00 PM

web monkey used to have a nice CSS tutorial where i learned a few years back. but that should be obsolete now.

if you got the time or the inclination check out zeldman's "designing with web standards" which gives you a very nice foundation & background to understand the when how & why of xhtml/css/dom. brilliant book, funny to read, though a bit pricey (almost $50). there are other books in the new riders imprint. fuck, i just saw amazon is selling it for $27.

or go to his website:
http://www.zeldman.com/
and this one:
http://alistapart.com

basically you want to separate structural markup from syles as much as possible.

so in your content page you simply use tags like div, p, h1, h2, etc.
everything else (font size, color, background color & images, etc. goes into the stylesheets)

you can create very nice layouts using floats-- no need for tables!

oh here is another book i like which helps when you wan to create fluid layouts:

http://www.simplebits.com/publications/bulletproof/

my suggestion would be this: instead of cleaning up messy code (and you could use this website as an opportunity to improve your css kung-fu), write up a very basic structural code where you lay out all the sections you want to feature.

once you get your content, then start creating stylesheets & apply background images & such.

that's the whole philosophy of the css zen garden. disable styles in your browser and see how plain the structural markup is. all the design you see is added with styles. http://csszengarden.com -- go check it out it's quite amazing the infinite designs they come up with, all using the same structural markup. it will blow your mind.

so this:
http://csszengarden.com/?cssfile=/189/189.css&page=0
and this:
http://csszengarden.com/?cssfile=/188/188.css&page=0
and this:
http://csszengarden.com/?cssfile=/193/193.css&page=0
and this:
http://csszengarden.com/?cssfile=/182/182.css&page=1

are *the same content* but with different styles!

go ahead & disable stylesheets in every page. fucking amazing. same html, just different styles.

which makes it very easy, you see, to update the content, without worrying about fucking font tags!

(i actually own the css zen garden book. it's a beauty).

oh and don't worry about giving me server access, i can look at your source code straight from the browser.

an extra dare: make it xhtml1.1 strict & try validating it @ the w3c site. oh yes, the joy...
