According to Sky News 200,000 people braved the freezing temperatures to watch the firework display in London. Did someone take a headcount for Sky News? I've never been convinced of crowd numbers the media gives out. I've always believed they sensationalise the numbers in an attempt to impress. I suspect the true figure was more like 20,000, if that. Plus, of course, Sky News doesn't want to ignominise London by giving out the true number of people who watched it's firework display, highlighting to the other cities it was watched by the fewest people.

i went to see the fireworks from the left side of the river and then walked around town, went to a few cafés, saw a guy getting arrested when tryng to rob an antique shop, ran into a lot of people i know. it was ok.

New Year's Resolutions:

1. Patiently break in my new 501 STFs.

2. Spend my precious disposable income less on J. Crew and more on local music venue attending.

3. Pick up my guitar again.

4. Be kinder to Porky and more patient with Satan.

Best NYE night I remember. I was djing and the mic went out and I had to scream the countdown and nobody could hear me, and my New Year's kiss was the hottest longest kiss I've had in as long as long is hot, and I'm sure most of the crowd figured I missed the count down because I was making out.

Olympia is damn fun on an annual only basis.

Downer of an NYE. The nightclub I work in had such a strange, half-arsed atmosphere. Nobody I served drinks seemed to be in a good mood and the DJ was definitely not trying hard enough, he played a terribly lazy set. My supervisor tried to give me a new year's kiss, so now when I go back to work in an hour or so I have to deal with that weirdness. Not liking 2010 so far. I had to walk home in the snow this morning and now I have a cold.

My NY's eve: Coworker says she has an extra ticket to the Avett Brothers concert at Thomas Wolfe Center, her friend canceled. We meet there and the lines to get in are freaking crazy. Plus the crowd is extremely young scruffy kids. We determine to give it a go anyway, and once inside, having gone through the ordeal of the security search and all, realize we don't want to be there. The band has already started, acoustics are terrible, and it's in the open auditorium section where it's all general admission.

So wind our way back out through the security lines we just came through, and instead walk downtown to the French Broad Chocolate place, where we have coffees and chocolate truffles and converse for two hours. Oddly, the coffee place was jam packed, but everybody was much more attractively put together than the concert crowd.

All in all, a pleasant evening.

Today I slept in, then got up and made chicken breasts for brunch, had a couple of beers, and hot-soaked my new Levi's 501 Shrink-to-fits. Then listened to Derek and the Dominos Live at the Filmore, All Things Must Pass, and Abbey Road, while doing laundry, pulling out music posters to put up on the walls. Then went back to bed midafternoon with more music on, a crossword, and then fell asleep for two hours. Woke up, called my wife, and now here I am. About to go out to buy crab meat and crab cake mix and more beer. Somewhere in there I played ball with the dog and we went on a walk.

All in all, a pleasant day. 2010 is OK so far.

Interesting that a few forum members "seem" to have birthdays today. Like, yeah, right.

Stop saying things that are meant to appeal to women.

I'd like it if your next post were a dirty limerick that would make Andrew 'Dice' Clay proud.
