I'd recommend Psycho because it is one of the best horror films ever. An interesting tidbit about the movie- Hitchcock went to great lengths so that people didn't really know what the movie was about. In advertisements he encouraged people not to tell their friends what the movie was about. I'm sure you know what it's about because it's become pop culture, so the whole twist element is kind of lost now. I wish I could have seen it not knowing what was going to happen. |
"Psycho" was the first Hollywood movie done that was based off serial killer Ed Gein. "The Texas Chainsaw Masscare", and "The Silence of the Lambs" also took elements of Ed Gein's killings.

Psycho struck people in its time for a weird thing he did : killing the movie star early on (and no flash backs).
It did not strike me when I saw it, but I had that kind of reaction Hitchcock wanted his audience to have, when William Petersen is shot in To Live and Die in LA, leaving the task of bringing an end to the movie to the supporting actor. Quote:
The lead male actor almost ruins the picture though. Not as bad as Frederick Stafford in Topaz, but still hard to bear. |
