start with debut
|
Actually I've just realised something... I only have her 'proper' albums. Are any of her soundtracks worth hearing? I remember her first one getting good reviews but I'm not sure whether it was supposed to be good as a piece of music or good as in 'appropriate for the film' (and unlistenable out of context).
I've always ignored film soundtracks. Probably because I'm trying to avoid owning too many CDs and reaching saturation-point, and I'm in denial about becoming obsessive: but I bought Made In USA and its awesome so I'm rethinking this stance. I might give Medulla another try too. |
the greatest hits its quite good to be honest.
you should give it a listen, and move on to 'homogenic' vespertine is my fav, at the moment. ah, and try debut too.. there are sum good tunes on it. like 'come to me' and other stuff |

Just start at the beggining (By that I mean Debut, not the one she released when she was a kid, it's shit) and go right through it. Vespertine is my personal favourite, but I felt her new album Volta was her most electic work, if not neccessarily best, and should give you a broad idea of what she can do, from hardish dance to soft feminine pop songs.

My suggestions
Sugarcubes: Life's Too Good Bjork: Post. Follow that up with Telegram (it's a remix album) and you're well on your way. Bjork is great. |
I recommend Post for starters. They're all good.

SELMASONGS is very much worth hearing (and DANCER IN THE DARK is very much worth seeing). The soundtrack album actually features variations on the songs found in the film (ex: 'Scatterheart' on the album is completely different from and superior to the film version; 'I've Seen it All' on the album subs Thom Yorke on vocals for the actor from the film, etc...) So it's not absolutely necessary to see the movie to enjoy the album. (the film is still highly recommended) The album closer 'New World' is one of my favorite Bjork songs. |
